Bizzaro. Never heard of a dealer doing that. Shame on her.
How was your trip otherwise?

Unusual, but anyone can call the clock. That dealers (almost) never do doesn't mean they can't. It used to be you had to be in the hand, but it was changed a couple years ago.

Wow!
I didn't know that dealers can call the clock! That seems weird but if that's true then the story isn't that crazy.

The floor asks who called the clock and the dealer continues to complain that the guy is taking ten minutes and she can't just sit there! The floor seems unsure what to do but eventually one of the players says that he will call the clock!

The "tanker" is very unhappy but makes the call & wins the pot but the argument goes on well after the hand ended. The dealer kept saying that she needs to earn her tips and the "tanker" keeps reminding her that she has no right to call the clock! She claims that she didn't call the clock! He maintains that she "effectively did"!

Amazingly, she was upset that he didn't tip her for the big pot!
It... was weird.
soooooooo wrong of the dealer.
dealers cant call the clock.
that dealer is not in reality if she expected a tip from him after that stunt.

sooooooooooooooooooooo wrong of the floor to be unsure!
he should have said instantly dont call the clock on your own/only players are allowed to call the clock!

edit:
i guess it depends on the casino if a dealer can call the clock by him/herself in a cash game?

Dealer obviously in the wrong. You can definitely complain about that to the shift manager. Obviously the dealer is working for tips, but tanking is part of the game.

Player calling clock is fine.

Player taking 10 minutes should be ashamed, and if habitual should be talked to, but if an uncommmon occurrence then just part of the game. Honestly, he should not be pissed about having clocked callled on him, even by dealer.

I'm sure what seemed like 10 min. to the dealer was probably about 4 minutes. I heard of a dealer in another room calling clock on a player. I was in the room at the time and heard a commotion behind me. She was a brand new rookie.

The supervisor coming over may not have known exactly what was happening at first and may have seemed confused. It was probably a table games dealer transitioning into poker who's not used to players being in the tank, and obviously knows nothing about poker except "they get to keep their own tips" but she found out why the hard way.

I'm under the assumption that dealer cannot call the clock. I mean, can the most impatient dealers call clock after 20 seconds? Just no. So the dealer is definitely in fault level 10.

The floor who came probably knew this, and when he/she realized that no one called the clock except for the dealer (who can't), he is covering for the dealer which I understand. The player ultimately called the clock did a good deed and let everyone off the hook.

Don't tank for 5+ min. Yea, a decision for 500 bucks can take time and whatever. But this is what you signed up for when you put that much on the table. After the first few minutes, I doubt you're doing new analysis in your head.

So multiple infractions. I put the dealer's infraction highest.

Dealers at Borgata can not call the clock.
The dealer in this case did not call the clock. Just seems like she was pissed because she wasn't making any tips. Too bad for her but 10 minutes of tanking is rediculous and some player should have called the clock.

Yeah, it is wrong for the dealer to call the clock on the player but by doing it she would earn double the tip from me for the foreseeable future.

I have never worked in a room where I could call a clock.

Even if I could, I wouldn't. Seems like bad form.

One of the best cocktail servers was the guy who worked the Taj poker room back in the day.

Unfortunately, I can't recall the hand exactly (which is very surprising since it was out there for so long!). The "tanker" called with top two pair (Q-10 off). I *think* there was a theoretical straight out there but don't think there was a flush possibility. Board was unpaired.

He said that he would have had no problem with a PLAYER calling the clock...

The clock discussion made me chuckle bc I've been dealing in situations, usually in 1/2 nl, where a player is tanking forever, but the other players are newbies and think I'm the guy who is supposed to call the clock. So they are giving me "the look" trying to tell me to call the clock without saying anything so they dont seem rude. I, in turn, am giving them the "counterlook" trying to tell them with my eyes that I can't call the clock and its up to them to take action bc I can't be rude either. This results in a series of eye rolls and grimaces with no success.

people should tip the dealer extra when they tank excessively win or lose

I’ve seen quite a few people call clock on themselves at Borgata. Not sure the point but it’s a nice gesture

You're right because the dealer should be smarter and not doing anything to risk their job.
Then again this was at Borgata where this is no accountability or standards for doing your job in the poker room so I'm sure they'll be fine.

I always tip based on the amount of time that a hand takes, not based on the size of the pot.

But I do not tip when I lose.

There's actually no reference about calling the clock anywhere in the Borgata Poker Guide (the rule book). Pretty weird being that it drills down on a ton.
