Play was........interesting. Obviously as bad as you'd expect at low stakes live poker but in a different way. The old men were certainly not OMCs, they were there to gambooooooooool (or at least many of them were).

Dealers were great and it was weird to me at first to see no trays of drinks going round but soon figured out what was happening. I actually really liked the self-serve water and coffee station tbh, means I didn't have to wait for a server to come round once every 20 minutes.

Ended up booking a $600 win (AA>KK, A5>AT (guy called a shove on A 5 5 4) and QQ > JT on T high board all for lots helps) and then went to the Cubs game. A great day.
Sounds like a good afternoon...by the way this post reads, I'm assuming you're in from out of town? Where do you usually play? Surprised that you got some good daytime gambol action, and that isn't always the case. That said, spring training has been known to make these games softer than usual. Nice win.

Excuse my ignorance but I'm from NJ and I'll be heading to Phoenix on business next month. I only play 1-2 No limit up here in the northeast, do you guys not have No limit in AZ? I was shocked when I heard this lol.

What's the closest thing to 1-2 NL there? Max buy in around here is usually $300. I'm really not trying to play 3-6 limit.

Also, what's the best way to get there from Downtown Phoenix? I'll prob be in the Sheraton by the Phoenix Convention Center.

Thanks guys!

Look for the 3-300 game - 2-3 blinds, you can bet between 3 and 300 any single bet. I don't recall whether it's 300 or 500 max buyin but it's effectively like a NL game with those levels.

It's 300 max buy-in. So if you bet $300, a guy can raise you to $600 on the same street. It isn't a cap game.

The 3/5 game is $500 max bet with a $1k buy-in.

Neither of these games have the betting limit really change the action.

Sure if you and another person are $3k deep, it might, but how often does that happen?

The betting limit is not restrictive until you hit 5/10 or bigger, and those games go fairly infrequently (usually just a 10/500 Omaha High game recently).

Lol that's interesting...so it's basically NL but you can't bet more than $300? Is that the smallest game they have? Is it the most popular?

2-3 3-300 is the smallest spread limit holdem game - according to Bravo currently 10 tables running. Other than that the small games are limit -3-6 and 4-8. There are 7 each of those tables running.

If you don't have Bravo get it - you can see what's going before you head out there.

Yeah I did a little more research and it looks like it's basically 1-2 with a max bet of 300. I'm interested to see how it plays differently from an east coast 1-2 NL.

I'm assuming the preflop raise will tend to be a bit more since blinds are slightly larger.

I haven't played either the 2-3 at TS or 1-2 back east so can't say. I guess you'll find out - good luck.

What's the best transport, ppl? Take w/e that train thing is called to Tempe then cab it?

btw, there's a TV listening app that you might appreciate while you wait for a pf pot that's greater than $12.

Uber LDO, unless you want to waste an hour extra and pay more.

I've only been there a few times, but every 2/3 game I've been in was action packed. Sure you were in a SL game?

I've tried the game maybe 30 times while waiting for my usual game determined to play tight and get a feel for it and maybe get good enough to add it as an option. I've tipped the entire pot minus my bet 3 times so far, that's how much action there is when I play. I really, really don't see why ppl play it, tbh, except that it's the cheapest game to play blinds-wise except for 3-6 and a player can expect to make a score if things go right.

HB you still play when the sun is shining right? I don't see you much but when I do I find the 2/3 & 3/5 games are much less enticing. IMO LHE games don't have as steep of a dropoff.

What a stupid law lol..It looks like the 2/3 plays the same as 1/2 so I'm sure it'll be fine. It'll suck when I have the nuts and can't shove more than $300 against second nuts on the river lol

you have to learn to bet your hands early and all the way through. with the bet cap you also dont get priced out so often with a big raise if you bet right. so can bet more often and make more money in different spots.

Wait..you can bet more than $300 total on all streets right? You just can't bet more than $300 at once?

So if I bet $100 on flop and $100 on turn...I can still bet $300 on river or do I have to bet $100 (I know it would be abit less considering preflop)?

$300 on the river.

Like I said, with a $300 max buy-in, you would likely need two people to start with >$900 and cooler each other for the bet sizing to significantly hurt your decisions unless you just like 3x betting pot randomly.

I think the betting cap explanation should be stickied onto the original post. And it could add an estimation of how often it is a factor in 2/3 play; I guesstimate not more than once every 40 hours.

if its not a factor people are betting too little on the early streets. with 2,3, blinds you should be getting more often 300 plus bets. unless players are not staying long or the games are too tight. there should be more stacks with 1,000 plus.

but if not then the 300 cap bet still leaves the game as no limit but small.

I played here a couple days ago after a wedding reception wound down. The room had the energy of Commerce in a smaller space with better behaved players. It seemed it took a while for chip runners to retrieve chips at times, but that's my only complaint. I could see myself spending a lot of time here if I lived in the area.
