Hey, can anyone direct me to an article regarding icm please?

I'm looking in to this atm, I have started playing mtt sng 45-180 man. When would icm become applicable? Ie push/fold. Should I adopt this approach when I am short stacked as well as the final stages?

Any info, layman terms, anything would be appreciated, I'm feeling like I've totally got the wrong idea about this :confused

just google Independent Chip Model. loads there.

All it is , is a way of assigning real $ value to a chip stack.

Are you saying you don't understand what it is? or are you saying you don't know how it should effect your game?

I recommend moshmans book. 'Sit and go strategy' its a little dated now but will give you a good grounding in understanding ICM and how it effects your game. It covers STT's really but a lot is transferable.

Also in STT's the ICM tax on confrontations can be colossal, so makes a good framework to learn the implications of ICM.

There must be articles that cover the same ground I guess.

ICM is for assigning value to chips stacks. Basically using the probability of each player finishing in what payout positions. Chip values are not linear having 99% of the chips doesn't mean you can win 99% of the prize pool you can only earn the money from 1st place

Look into BF Bubble Factor. This is assigning a value to the ICM tax on a collision with an individual.

Thank you very much, I've been looking and decided to start low stake single table sng for now to get some practice in. I have got some all in charts etc too so hopefully will all come together in time. Again thanks for your help, it seemed way over my head at first but I will get there, I will lol

I folded ak suites on the bubble to a raise, not sure if was correct decision but it paid off this time. I'll be posting a few hands etc over the next few days which I feel I done right but would like confirmation

STT's are a great place to start for a few reasons.

Lower variance. This term gets past around a lot but its important to everyone but especially when starting out. Means its easier to have Bankroll management considerations while starting a roll. The lower variance also means we are less likely to lose confidence early by hitting a downswing. It also means you need a smaller sample before you can asses how positive your expectation is likely to be.

They are great at learning the importance of ICM as these considerations can be huge. They are also great for learning short handed poker/ heads up poker. I play 180 man MTSNG's now and so much of the value is decided on the Final table as they are top heavy.

I wasn't actually saying you should play stt's, but I don't think its a bad idea at all. IMO they are not as profitable but its all about developing your game early without busting your roll.

If you have PT4 there is a ICM quiz where it ask you your decision. These are limitless as it generates new ones within whatever parameters you set, so its not like it runs out of questions. I'm not sure if Holdem manager has simialair.

Good Luck
