45 mans near the final table

Hello!

I have a hard time figure out what mode I should use when I analyze hands in wizz when there is only 12-10 people left.

Some people say that you should use only graphic game view because you are so near the final table. But I will give you guys a scenario when I canīt understand why we are going to not use chip equity mode here.

*10 people left

*Hero sits UTG with 4 players behind

*Blinds is 400/800 + 50 ante

I have just changed SB and BBs calling range here.

SB calling range = 11%
BB calling range = 20%

If we put this into wiz with only graphic game view it tells us that we can shove around 12% of our hands.

But in this scenario I shove pretty much 100 %. Because if we fold, then the blinds is going to hit us hard the next round and we will be in a bad shape for the final table. So I rather take the chance of doubling up or steal the marks in the middle of the pott with a slight underdog risk.

What are your thoughts about this?

Re: 45 mans near the final table

These 10 handed spots are the easiest to figure out with near perfect precisions. Sng wiz will allow you to put 10 players at the table (and probably some other programs too), so just average the remaining chips and put them in the UTG positions already folded. Now you more or less have accurate ICM.

The short stack UTG question is much more complicated than people give it credit for. It depends a lot on what people will shove at your next hand, and how likely they are to adjust to you shoving a super wide range. Generally at low stake players they understand shoving much better than calling so it likely better to preserve your fold equity unless you feel they are unlikely to turn the heat up on you next hand.

At higher stakes versus very good players (the best $10 and profitable $20+ players), I think mediocre regs shove way too wide and end up exploiting themselves versus the best players. This situation likely never comes up however if you are playing the $1-3 sngs so it is nice to think about, but not something you should heavily apply to your game.

There is an exception of roflpwning the better $1-3 regs shoving way wide utg because it is what they were taught to do. In many situations, it is correct for them to continue shoving wide because we cannot call them that much wider anyway.

HTH
