Hello twoplustwo MTTSNG community. I've been playing 25 cents 45 man regular speed sit n go's on stars for over a month now and I still have some doubts strategic wise.
All the strategic guides for this format I encountered are really old and since poker is so rapidly developing game I suspect that they are outdated and also they don't touch some matters that I'm concerned/not sure about. If there was a post like that in the past I'm really sorry, didn't find it though with search option.
Early stage:
General idea presented in those is to play very nitty in the beggining stages, folding all non premiums, but is that really true nowadays? I myself usually sit at 14-20ish Vpip at this point which is quite a bit off the only premium tactic(that I didn't find too profitable).
How loose should my opening ranges get in early, middle and late possition?
Another thing is stacking in the early stages. We obviously stack AA and KK, and I myself try to stack AK and even QQ.
Is that correct?
If I loose a huge pot or few small-medium pots and become short quite early how should I proceed?
Middle stage:
From my observation the most profitable stage is between FT and 20-25 players to go but only if I have decently healthy stack that is at least doubled up with some on top (That lets me
open more videly with bigger stacks yet to act since they need to consider loosing solid part of their stack if they get in a brawl with me, and .
At this point I reach arround 27-32Vpip opening a lot of hands and picking up blinds and antes if my table isn't extra loose. This way i get pretty high placing setting up for FT.
But I think I could turn a lot more profit in that stage by figuring out correct ranges of calling short stack shoves.
My question here is how do I do that, because i feel like I'm missing some +ev spots by calling too nitty. Is the range static or dynamic, if static what would be the optimal one, and if dynamic how do I figure it out?
Also if i happen to be a shortstack what should be my optimal shoving ranges and on which blind tresholds. I don't expect getting exact precise ranges but I would appreciate some tips on what to look out for and how to figure this out since I myself don't know (since it's not a FT nor a bubble ICM won't work here right???)? I find myself dropping at this point quite often after GII bad.
Late stage (Final table):
If I have a decent stack at this point I become much tighter trying not to spew chips recklessly, playing mainly premiums only, choosing my stealing spots much more carefully
even letting if a really short stack is yet to act.
What hands should I call short stack all ins on FT? From observation many people are really really patient, folding even on 4-5BB waiting for that AK or medium-high pocket pair. Does that mean I should not be calling those shoves without premium myself?
If I'm short I just sit and wait for a good holding and opportunity to stack off.
And again my concern here are my ranges since i find myself here GII bad quite often. How do I create basis for my range that I could improve with ICM calculations since I can't get ICM results on the fly?
Summary:
What I call "middle" and "late" stage here might be a little off but I wanted to point out how i perceive points in the game where strategy somehow shifts. If my strategic approach is not correct please correct me. If you have any tips on how I could improve my game, answers to my qustions or any tricks/observations that tend to work for you and you'd like to share I would highly appreciate it.
