Hey guys,

Curious for a quick checkup on this move. Would you 3bet jam/fold or call. And why?

I don't think I'm happy to get 30bb in preflop here. There are not generally enough bluffs at these stakes, so you're mainly against value. I can't see villain 3betting 88 or worse versus UTG raise, so I think villains range is (optimistically) AQ/JJ+. Your pretty crushed so I think I let it go. Tell me I'm right?!

Thnx for your comment Colin. I probably should have added that we are at the final 2 tables. At the time I didn't really narrow his 3bet folding/calling ranges down. But jamming seemed the best of the 3 options. Can't flat this hand. Folding 99 didn't really felt that great either. So I thought why not put maximum pressure on him and let him decide for his tournament life. But if I narrow his ranges down now. I doubt that he is calling with QQ. KK AA AK call for sure. I think he could 3bet fold TT JJ and AQ. Maybe TT is questionable. But him calling with QQ as well. So let say he is slightly ahead in ranges. Than there is already 1858 in the pot. And if he calls we still have 20% chance vs overpairs. Doesn't all these things make it a profitable shove? He had queens btw.

And what about our perceived range? What hands does he expect us jamming with? I think JJ+ and AQ+ but since he has QQ we have a perceived range of AK+ and JJ+. Should that make him fold? Am I looking to much for a mathematical reason now? Probably he is thinking either *** it I have queens and I ain't folding them or he thinks I am at best flipping and I don't want to bust yet

People don't like to 3b/f TT and JJ . They are far more likely to just flat those hands pre or 3b/c those hands . Either way, you won't find a lot of players who will 3bet linear like that and then fold the bottom half of their 3b range . They're more likely to just 3b "value hands" which they wont ever fold to your 4b and MAYBE they have some "bluffs" which are hands they will fold to your 4bet . But those "bluffs" are unlikely to be TT JJ and AQs

It's a reasonable shove with 99 but don't expect opponents to be folding better hands because that will virtually never happen .

I agree with you frogman. The 'blufs' they have are more likely to flat. It was a reasonable jam but probably better to let it go.

For the people who would flat the 3bet. How would you continue on future streets? Any overcard on the board would be bad. I think we are just spewing chips if we flat.

His 3Bet sizing is small.. Could tell 2 things.

    1. He is doing this on purpose to make you not fold preflop and probably got you beat preflop. TT+ (wants some extra value PF, if he 3Bets to big you might fold your 9's)

    2. He is a recreational player, and knows **** all about correct 3B sizing PF.

Either way, you are still calling his 3B off correctly for the pot odds you get and the chips you already paid/invested into the pot.

9's play easy postflop. If the board makes you scared, easy fold and you still have enough chips left to wait for better spot(s)..

I tend to agree we have odds to call the 3-bet, either to set mine or sometimes win another way.

In more normal circumstances I would have to fold.

If 99 is a strong hand in action that starts with an open into 7 players then what's a weak or average hand?
