Hi everyone,

Please welcome me in my first post

I have started playing and studying very recently, around 1 month only. I'm trying my chance with the micro 45p and 90p turbo SNGs. I think I learnt a few about ICM, but not solid, of course.

I will ask about a general scenario, with a specific example. How aggro should I be when the stacks that can damage me MUST consider folding lots of hands?

Here is my last example:

I have 41 hands with the Cutoff and taken a note "limp-stab-folds often". I thought one "almost dead" player and one shorter stack had to make the villain fold.

[converted_hand][hand_history]Poker Stars, $0.91 Buy-in (1,250/2,500 blinds, 250 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 4 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. View Hand #37149960

BB: 24,235 (9.7 bb)
CO: 31,160 (12.5 bb)
Hero (BTN): 69,015 (27.6 bb)
SB: 10,590 (4.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 7 6
CO calls 2,500, Hero raises to 68,765 and is all-in, 2 folds, CO calls 28,410 and is all-in

Is this a good push? What should our range be here?

Welcome to MTTSNG - the part of 2p2 where people are nice to each other.

I think this shove is fine if he is limp-folding a lot. If this was a strong player then I'd say there is a risk he's trapping. With 76s you are in reasonable shape if called by anything other than an overpair.

Our fold equity also depends on our own image. If you take every possible spot for ICM pressure then they know you have junk a lot of the time and will "take a stand" against you. If we've been dealt a lot of junk lately and been folding then we have more fold equity on this hand.

The other thing is - it's not just about how much he's limping, it's also important if he's raising at all. If he plays 40/3 then he can easily have AK or TT here, if he plays 50/20 then his range is capped and he has to fold pretty much all the time.

It's common to say that weak players in micros don't understand ICM. They might not speak about it in the same way as us but they do understand the desirability of laddering. On the other hand they tend to overvalue min-cashing and undervalue the other positions so they may well be playing too loose now we are ITM.
