WoW worth getting into for a noob? WoW worth getting into for a noob?

I've thought about resubbing again, I'm just worried that I don't have enough time to play to make it worth even 15 bones, not to mention the cost of the new xpac. I have resubbed and quit several times since vanilla, I always wind up getting bored after a few months and leaving. How is the newest xpac different (other than the obvious) from the previous one?

If you love doing Daily quests, hate playing on alts, love rep grinds, doing LFR and pokem... I mean pet battles, then resub. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. Oh, and it you enjoy real raiding, especially, don't bother, unless you're on a high pop server.

Total WoW noob here. I'm looking at picking up the game for some casual PvE play.

A few dumb questions:

I was looking at WoW and LoTRO. Anyone have an opinion on how these compare for a casual gamer?

With all the various WoW expansion packs I'm not sure what I should purchase. Is there a version that's completely up to date with all expansions or do I need to purchase everything individually? What exactly should I be buying?

Servers: How do I decide which server to join? Any recommendations?

I don't have any friends who are playing so I'll mostly be solo. Is this fine or am I going to run into problems?

Any recommendations about the best way to begin the game - best region to start, class types to avoid, etc...

Thanks guys.

WoW > LoTRO ainec

If you want to be completely up to date buy this: https://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/world-of-warcraft it includes 30 days play time and the basic game plus the Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm expansions. Then you buy Mists of Pandaria which is the latest expansion: https://us.battle.net/shop/en/produc...ts-of-pandaria

Note that you don't need Mists of Pandaria right off the bat since it is for level 85+. The first link will last you until level 85, you only need MoP if you want to play a Monk character.

Playing WoW solo is fine, that's how I've mostly played the last couple years.

How often/what hours do you plan on playing? I'd do a Recruit-a-Friend with you if you want. Basically we would play and level together and we would get 300% exp while we are in a party. https://us.battle.net/support/en/art...cruit-a-friend

Playing times would probably be between 7-10est weeknights and sporadically over the weekends. That could change though... exact times and session lengths mostly depend on family and work commitments. The recruit-a-friend promo sounds interesting and I'd be up for it if I decide to pick up the game. I don't have the time to run too many games at once and I'm also looking at Dark Souls II once it's released for the PC.
I'll definitely PM you once I make up my mind.

Yeah those are generally the hours I play too, shoot me a PM if you decide to pick it up.

Leaning towards picking up WoW and saving DS2 for a later time. Won't know for sure until mid-week though - got a gauntlet of Easter weekend family obligations to get through first.

About the Pandaria expansion.... if I'm starting with a level 1 character is there any benefit to installing it now or can I just wait until I level up?

You can wait until you level up. The only effect it has on level 1 characters is if you want to play a Monk, then you need to buy MoP. You can even play a pandaren if you want without buying MoP.

Just a heads up if you want to do the Recruit-A-Friend thing is that we would be playing as Horde.

No matter what, do some sort of RaF because you get like a free week or two.

Then buy vanilla-cata for five bucks. There should still be links to that deal all over the place. No reason to pay more than that.

No idea about a $5 deal but if you make a starter account, create a character, and then relog, when you log back in you'll get an offer to purchase WoW for $10 instead of $20.

Installing right now. Have never played before, but have been on-n-off with EverQuest since '99 and eq finally broke my spirit so I guess I'll give wow a go!

Good luck, hope you have fun!

Although you get a free 90 boost I suggest using the time from now to WoD to level up a character from scratch and then use your boost later on for an alt.

The first few months of a new expansion is (imo) the most fun time in WoW. Everyone is starting "fresh" and figuring out talents, crafting, raids, etc as they go. It would make for a better first experience then trying to do last minute **** in MoP.

here in two weeks everyone is nearly starting fresh anyhow.

newbie tip: if you set up a battletag, make sure to go to battle.net and configure the settings to your preferences. They had this brilliant idea a while ago that their forums would be cuddlier and fluffy bunnier if everyone went by the full names on their accounts.

Although that got shot down, they do have some default settings that are pretty ****ty. It's actually why Killa thinks my name is Troy or Trever or something.

hey guys,
haven't played WoW in 6years but now i'm looking for a game to play when bored/tilted so I thought I might give WoW a try again. Where are most of you guys playing(server)? I don't know any WoW players anymore and playing with randoms isn't much fun.

If you only have an EU license, you can buy another copy of WoW (which includes everything through Mists of Pandaira) for $20. You'll have to start all new characters though. When you upgrade to Warlords, you'll get one character boosted to 90 which is currently max level. You can play around with them then when Warlords launches in November you can get right on your way to 100.
