Haven't upgraded to mop from cata yet, but i got a 10-day free trial. That allows you to play MOP but not get to 86.

Playing the 85-89 pvp bracket I noticed something odd: levels are much less important than they are normally. As an 85 geared out in full cata gear I was quite competitive. With a good team I was actually pretty dominant when I got a good team. 89's with their big health pools are difficult to take down but that's about it.

It seems that there is no pvp gear between 85-90. Most players are not bothering to optimize their gear. They have no pvp/power/resilience.

It occurs to me that if I don't upgrade to mists I can twink up a bit and dominate the bracket like twinks used to before they started giving xp for bg's. I won't ever go above 85 but I can play xp-on against pve'rs and levellers. Any thoughts on this?

Seems like I can buy some stuff through the AH like shoulder/head enchants. Gear is more difficult. My guess would be that cata pvp gear with its pvp stats and set bonuses is better than anything at ilvl410. ilvl440 I'm not so sure about that's tougher to get-and I only have ten days to do it.

The dungeons I can currently offer seem to only offer 410 gear. The quests offer nothing useful.

There's a bunch of rare elites which seem to drop 440 gear which I might be able to solo but are pretty tough without help from a 90. I'm guessing I should spend the next ten days trying to dupe helpful 90's in the area to help me.
There's also some items from the professions available for 85's, such as the ilvl458 alchemist's stone trinket.
