I'm about to get back into WoW, getting my account setup now and am hoping to steal some ideas from people with regards to UI layout and also add-on setup. What are some crucial addons for levelling?

Wanted to get a screenshot in-combat but I kept forgetting, this is the closest I could get. This is where I got it, with a couple a la carte things, like GTFO, DBM because I don't like DXE (need to disable DXE though), and some others I can't think of. I haven't updated it for 4.2 yet though, should probably get around to that eventually..



Looking at this screenshot has made me realize I have lots of stuff to fix, like the decursive live list (anyone know how to move that? I couldn't find it), the location of debuffs on me, the ****ing minimap is a mess but I never use it so I haven't noticed it till now, and probably some more stuff I'm too tired to think of right now. Gets the job done just fine for now though.

Most of my stuff is keybound in Clique, so if the keybinds you see on the bars don't make any sense, it's because I don't use those.

I am always trying to reorganize my UI to get a "cleaner" feel. I like the idea of putting Omen in between the chat box and the abilities. I think that with a little scaling, I can probably fit mine the same way you have yours.

Yeah I've started moving some stuff around trying to get a more clean and open feel. I moved the decursive micro unit frames or whatever they're called right above Grid, both to help dispel faster (though I sometimes forget where they are and still start moving my mouse to the right) and to clean it up a bit, because where it is in the screenshot would sometimes overlap with my target's debuffs and make it hard to dispel. I also added in a big green bar with NeedToKnow to keep track of Harmony (resto druid mastery) in between my nameplate and the cooldown timer. I moved the location of debuffs on me down a bit so that it doesn't overlap with buffs, and I moved the Decursive live list basically right under the "Objectives" list on the right side. I'm thinking about moving the spell timers or whatever it is (where Clearcasting is in the screenshot) to right under my name, just to make it a little easier to see while healing. Sometimes I can see out of the corner of my eye that my clearcasting proc still has a lot of time left, but sometimes I can't tell without looking all the way over, and that can just throw me off a bit.

As mainly a healer, I don't need to worry about Omen or Recount that much, so I like where he put them, down out of the way but still easily accessible and aesthetically pleasing (at least imo). I wish I had a screenshot of my old UI from a few months ago, this one is basically a blank screen compared to that one. I also have a friend who liked the UI I use and downloaded it, and he somehow managed to screw it up so there's only a small square about the size of his character in the middle of the screen that's not covered with crap. I think he uses a lower resolution which really screws it up, but still, I just don't get how you can play like that.

I use pretty much the same UI to DPS, but I add in a big bar where Grid is with the main abilities I use to keep an eye on them, mostly because I've started getting back into my hunter and I need to keep an eye on Chimera Shot and when I have enough focus for Aimed Shot. It's probably not really necessary for my druid, but whatever, here it is, not that much different

I've got a couple of screenshots of my UI. I've been messing around with it for a couple weeks, tweaking it to my liking. This is all done from scratch pretty much, no major addons like Tukui or anything - although I did consider those.

I've been trying out Tanking on my DK, this is a screenshot from a Heroic Stonecore I ran this weekend. We wiped 3 times on the first boss. I was wondering if I was really that bad at tanking, but after looking at the meters I think the entire group was pretty undergeared or didn't know how to play. The healer was putting out 4k HPS, and I don't know if that's good or not, seems like it would be but we couldn't get this boss killed before the healer went OOM. I held aggro the whole time, though. I have a few 359's but I'm at least all 346'd otherwise. What I need to work on is managing my rotation so I'm not going >10 seconds without a Death Strike available.

Here are a couple of the things I'd like to clean up about it, but I can't figure out what addons are doing it.

1. The timers that are overlapping my faceplate (Blood Plague, Scarlet Fever, Frost Fever). These are in 3 places, I want them just on my Magic Runes bar on the left. They get in the way and they're annoying as hell when they cover stuff up. The swing timers (the 2.5 bar) annoy me but I don't know how to get rid of them.
2. I moved the Range radar all the way to the right, it wasn't locked.
3. I have bugswatter but it doesn't seem to do what I want. I want a way to suppress all the annoying errors up there. Yes, I know that ability isn't ready yet but i'm mashing the button so that it will happen in .3 secs when my damn rune is ready!

The top left is my current target, and the plate opposite my character is my focus target. Both cast bars are above the focus target frame.

Interface > Buffs & Debuffs > Consolidate Buffs imo

For the record, wiping on that fight is almost definitely the DPS's fault. Not only are they doing incredibly terrible DPS, but if they're dying they're probably not getting out of crystal barrage, or they're getting one shot while he's submerged. Then again, if people need the healing your healer should be dispelling the debuff that absorbs 15k (I think) healing, but I only ever dispel it off the tank since there's almost no damage going out.

I'm a little curious why you have the rune tracker thing under your nameplate, and then basically another one to the right of your party frames? Seems redundant to me, but it's your UI not mine so if you like it and find it useful to have some redundancy go for it.

You'll also notice that I don't have any of my cooldowns blown in that screenshot even though I'm almost dead. I figured I didn't want to blow anything when 2 DPS were dead and the third had only done a few hundred K damage for the whole fight, and I certainly wasn't killing this guy alone when the healer was almost OOM. So I figured it was a good time to take a screenshot.

I am toying with the idea of removing the bars for the sake of clutter and going with the runes under my nameplate. But the bars are very handy, it gives you time till the runes are off CD, plus your diseases all in one place, also Runic Power. I probably will remove the runes from under my nameplate.

When they introduced consolidate buffs I didn't like the idea at first. But I'll have to give it a shot and see if I can deal with not knowing at all times that I have Arcane Brilliance.

Also, I have two vertical bars on the right hand screen with professions, mounts, pets etc that auto-hide during combat. Same with the help bar and bag bar right underneath my Presence bar.

I hate consolidating buffs. No real reason for it, just don't like doing it, like to make sure people are giving me the right buffs and such at a glance I guess.

And I mean, of all the things that make that UI slightly cluttered, the buff/debuffs definitely is low on that list.

Edit: Was thinking about retooling my UI tonight. If I do I'll post a pic, although I'll probably end up getting fed up and just reinstall TukUI.

I think its easier to see at a glance if you're getting the right buffs, at least in a raid. Look at the number, if it says 10 (I think that's the number) you're good to go, if not just tell everyone to hit their buttons again

Does anyone know what is putting up those timers? The redundant disease ones that are covering up my faceplate?

I think getting rid of those and my extra rune bar would go a long way towards cleaning up my UI.

Was bored on the weekend and started testing out some new mods(I don't raid/PVE so my mods are all PvP based stuff) for the hell of it and found one that I really like called GladiatorlosSA. The great thing about this mod is that it announces what spells and abilities your opponents are using but unlike gladius it does it using speech instead of text.

I don't like to take my eyes off of my opponents to read text or watch cast bars etc so this mod works perfectly for me. It announces when enemies have activated abilities and when they go down...it sure is nice to hear that an enemy has blown some big cooldown ability so that I can get away from them or CC them.

This mod will be a must-have for me in arenas now for sure, haven't found any issues with it yet other than in BGs when you are swarmed with enemies(AV, IOC, etc)...for those situations I just disable it at the start of the game.

The swing timer, and at least one of the disease timers is quartz I think.

Threw this together tonight, still want to make some tweaks, but I'm happy with the rough layout:

Figured out what those timers were. It's buried in Quartz under the target and focus settings. Here's a cleaner screenshot before we pull Cho'gall on my Mage.

Magemanabar is an awesome addon. As before, right hand bars and bag/Bliz bars disappear in combat.

Looks much better/cleaner there, though of course that's out of combat so who knows.

What does the "BOOM" button do?

Probably his engineering glove enchant.

I like a pretty clean UI, so I use elvUI, a derivation of tukui.

The top action bar on the left side is outfitter, the two underneath that are bartender bars modified to resemble my G13, and the ones on the right side are all bound to the 1-12 keys on my naga, so I have a lot of keybinds available without using modifiers.

I want to try a premade UI just to see if I can get around some of the problems I've been having with mine lately. I have RealUI downloaded and I'm going to fire it up when I get home tonight, might raid with it tonight if I like it enough.

I have one. You can see the action bar I have laid out for it on the left in my UI screenshot.

It's great, but I wouldn't recommend putting anything you have to be able to use in a pinch on 1-3 or 10-12, they take quite a while to be able to press them with any accuracy.

How difficult is ElvUI to get up and running?
