If it's okay, I'd like this thread to be a catchall for auction house stuff, since it tends to clutter up other threads.
I've been playing WoW since 2005, and have been fooling around with the auction house pretty much the entire time.
I can remember saving up to buy a savory deviate delight recipe back when they were still pretty rare and going for the huge sum of 60g on my server, then spending hours and hours fishing up deviate fish and selling them in singles on the AH for 2g.
Currently the single best market I participate in is inscription, and here's how I do it:
1.) Buy Whiptail for <35g a stack
2.) Mill and craft inks, averaging 6 blackfallow inks and one inferno ink per stack.
3.) Sell the inferno ink for >35g, which is pretty easy even though darkmoon decks aren't nearly as popular as they were, and make a profit before I craft a single glyph.
4.) Use tradeskillmaster to only make glyphs where the profit is at least 70g. On my server, the glyphs selling for <100g tend to have massive undercutting going on quite a bit, but people have mostly given up on doing research or buying glyph mastery books, so most of those glyphs still sell for ~200g.
5.) Most of the recipes will use 3 inks, which means each stack of whiptail yields two glyphs. On average I sell the inferno inks for about 45g each, the two parchments cost 1g25s each, and my average glyph sale price is about 120g. This means one stack of whiptail at 35g will yield a potential 237g in pure profit.
I sell roughly the same amount in actual gold value of glyphs as I do gems on a daily basis, roughly about 4000g, depending on when and if I have time to go back and repost auctions. 95% of the money I make from inscription is profit, while jewelcrafting is probably more like 25%.
Has anyone else noticed a huge spike in the price of Elementium Ore on their server since 4.2 hit.
A stack is currently around 70g+ on my server.
A bunch of the people that used to shuffle have gone out of the market, so I'm guessing a lot of the bots have abandoned farming ore and the market has increased back to where it would normally be, but I still get a rare stack for less than 25g every once in a while.
I'm not raiding, have all available VP gear on my main (both specs) and only continue to play to hit 1m gold. Currently at 840k, no idea what I'm gonna do when I get there.
anyone thinking about stocking up on volatile fire for 4.3 yet? just noticed that ALL of the BS and LW recipes take 40 each... looks like we could expect a jump in price
Unless they massively nerf the drop rates of volatile fire during the MF dailies, it will still be very easily farmable and I wouldn't expect the price to rise much, even if demand goes up a lot.
looks like the new 5 mans will be dropping 378ilvl according to mmo-champion..so i figure people will stop doing the dailies like lowkey suggested. im scooping up VF when they are up for 4g or under a piece on my server.. i figure the worst that happens is i try to unload them for 5g a piece when there aren't that many on the market..
Do you think people will still do MF dailies when the easy raids and new heroic 5 mans will possibly drop higher ilvl gear?
I think it will drop off somewhat, but there's still the mount, and people will still use MF as a way to get gear on their way to being geared enough for the new 5-man's.

Maybe they'll nerf it, at least the time it takes. I just finished with my lock and really am not looking forward to doing it on my mage. There are already a lot fewer people around doing it.
Am I reading things right that Maelstrom Shatter is going to give 2 Heavenly Shards? That sounds pretty dumb imo, it would be much better if it was more like Abyssal Shatter (or at the very least included the possibility of getting Greater Celestials too). Greater Celestials are already consistently going for >100g on my server, and with all the new gear people will be getting, they're going to be bought much more, making them more scarce and thus driving up the price even more. Though I guess this could also work out well for me, I'll just have to go back to making Carnelian Spikes to DE instead of transmuting my Carnelians to Infernos.
If Maelstrom Shatter really is just giving 2 Heavenly Shards each time though, it probably won't take too long for Maelstrom Shatter to be worthless after everyone shatters all of theirs and kills the Heavenly Shard market and/or drives Maelstrom prices back up.
You can still get a lot of lesser celestials from making jasper and alicite rings and de'ing, which is generally much more profitable than transmuting. I can't really ever get enough inferno rubies to keep my stock of cut gems going without ending up with way too many solid ocean sapphires, so I would never consider making carnelian spikes.

I don't think Blizzard has every really nerfed a daily quest hub like that before, but there's always hope.
with the 4.3 chaos orb non soulbound announcement, and everyone being able to roll on them.. how soon do u think the prices will normalize? and will it hurt the people that have saved up 100+, or is it still worth farming in the meantime. curious to know what peoples opinions are.
