Everyone at University is there to learn, I wouldn't let it bother you so much. I had to do some projects at Uni with people who just didn't get it, you just have to get on with it.

IRL you'll probably have to work in similar environments.

Lol, that last part about calling him out on the 10 pages seems like a lose/lose. If he can be bothered at all, he'll now waste time on a section your group already finished.

Yea agreed. That's why I held my tongue. i try really hard on not calling him out on his bull****

I did 25 pages, suck it overachiever group!

I'm assuming this is a real hardware issue since it happens at login but just to be sure...does it happen if you login via nonGUI? I'm asking because my "ä" key was mapped to something and didn't work a while back and it took me a bit to realize the key was perfectly fine :P
[AFAIK the mapping happened before the GUI login screen popped up so it was already blocked at login which is obviously a bug]

What is this course again? Like what topic, what level, etc?

Pick up a cheap USB keyboard for now. many laptop you'll be able to source a new keyboard part from ebay if you wanted, if it's a work one prob just push for replacement of the whole thing, or if they got lots of the same model salvage a keyboard section from one broken in a different area.

Yeah gonna push for a brand new one. A USB one will do until then tho.

200 level software development class. He grades on a really ****ty metric and curve. I'm almost guaranteed a B or C in the class despite getting A's on all the exams so far.

Barrin, I ****ed that exam up, not in a good way. I spaced and forgot that non-member functions and static functions cannot have a const modifier.. boom there goes 3 points. then #5 on the yellow version I think I butchered but so far no one has been able to figure out the answer for that.

And seriously man, idgaf about the damn curve, if you wanna compare SRS stuff I'd be totally fine with it. I think both groups would benefit.

@Barrin

You should try to make up a phrase and see if this guy will try to copy it. Like for example, "I did a pump request on Github". Of course you run the risk of looking dumb, but if no one else in your group even knows what Github is then there is no risk to you.

Yep, I am aiming for a B. There's no point putting in an extra 100 hours of work for a 5% chance of an A.

Ouch, I made a mistake of putting a const on a non-member function on the midterm, so I knew not to do it again here. I know you had the other test and I heard, or at least it seems like your guy's version test is harder. There's only one question that I wasn't sure was correct or not. The professor and I don't see eye to eye on what is efficient, so I could end up losing points on that one.

Lol I don't think our SRS will be useful to you guys at all. I showed him what I wrote, which was basically what design pattern we used to develop our app . He really liked it.. except he said it doesn't belong in the SRS except in the appendix. He was really intrigue on our choice of design pattern since no one has done it in 6 years, but now he's setting the bar high on wanting us to "back this up". Which means, we have to write our SRS and prove that our project uses this design correctly.

Now there's a lot of pressure on me on churning out diagrams of classes, and how they are involved in this pattern. On the bright side he gave us a 10 for today's meeting.

I avoid talking to him now. He's just makes me so angry when I hear his voice. He's the dbgirl in my life.

The class diagrams are really easy to make, but super tedious. I have started my quota for this week and I am already drinking to get through it.

edit:

also, I'm sure you're aware of this, but there's no way he's going to read every page. He does skim, but with my diagrams, he just loved the pictures. I don't think he read any of the text. So we have all sorts of functional requirements that there's no way we're gonna be able to implement and definitely no way he'll know if we did or not, like automated updates (lol, yea right).

Just had a technical screen (let's not use the company name anymore). The only piece of code I had to write was this. I muddled through and got it, but I'm sure there are much more elegant ways.

// Describe how you would find the most frequently occurring number in an array of integers
// [0, 1, 1, 3, 2, 3, 1, 1]

Asked me about prototypical inheritance as well. How in the hell could I not have looked that up? I haven't to deal with inheritance for years. And when I do I just copy some existing code and run with it.

But then he asked about closures and I was able to shine. I think it went ok overall. There were definitely no questions where I was like "holy cow you guys are on another level".

is iterating over the whole thing out of the question?

wasn't sure. been reading project euler and i'm understanding that they frown upon brute forcing answers.

wasn't sure if there was some magical way of getting the contents sans going over all of 'em

Can you use the int as an index in another array, adding one to that index as you iterate over the first array? Then find the highest value in the second array. Or hash or dictionary whichever is appropriate?

that'd be my plan! I wonder if it's terrible lol

Doesn't seem too bad, it's O(n).

I am guessing what they don't want to see is an O(n^2) algorithm.

Speaking of algorithm design, I've been assigned the task of designing and implementing the garbage collection scheme for the SSD I work on. I am super excited as this is a really interesting topic.

This isn't possible. You have to read every single value at least once. Don't be fooled by map / reduce / filter and all that functional speak. It is iteration with a different name.
