Laptop won't play Youtube videos, unable to download/update Flash

I followed all the directions on the Adobe site but it won't download the update and my gf's daughter is unable to view video on the Web. I rolled back to a restore point all the way in January but it still won't work.

Machine seems otherwise fine, no browser redirects or anything that would lead me to believe that it is infected. Any idea what I could be doing wrong or should be doing? TIA

can you be more detailed?
like what OS are you using? And what browser. Have you used different browsers? firefox chrome ie opera etc?
What do you actually see if you try to update flash at the adobe site?

Using IE 9, Windows 7 starter (it's a notebook PC). I tried downloading Firefox and Chrome but the downloads would not start. I updated Java. Still nothing.

What exactly do you mean by 'the downloads won't start'? Are you getting any kind of message? Any chance the user settings have disabled downloads? You might have to log in as an admin if thats the case.

Logged in as admin. You click the "Download" link and literally nothing happens.

I tried downloading the flash executable to a removable drive and installing it that way, that didn't work either. I went through all the steps on Adobe's site to ensure the download would start but it still won't. I tried running an Eset online scan and the "start" button was greyed out even after I checked the "I accept the terms of service" box.

hmm.. Try uninstalling your older version of flash(if installed) and try downloading it then. If http/web downloads in general dont work try resetting your internet options to default.

This could easily be some crazy malware check ur pc for trojans/malware/virusses.

if this alll doesnt work, try formatting your pc. Starting fresh with a clean sheet so to speak.

Is there a setting in IE that keep you from downloading files.

Yes this was covered on Adobe's page, I was sure that would fix it, but it did not.

I assume it's malware of some kind but the strange thing is that there are NO other signs of infection on the machine, and in my experience there usually is something else that would indicate a bug of some kind.
