Re: Software Hall of Shame - Your picks

My university uses the Outlook Web App for its email.

Whenever I'm away for my computer too long, I time out. The page displays a message saying I am timed out, with a prompt to sign back in using my password. I type in my password and the page reloads saying, "sorry, you've been timed out." So I grumble and wonder why that prompt is even there, and decide that in the future when I'm timed out I'll try hitting "Submit" with no password to refresh the page. In that event, it complains that I didn't type a password. Even though it won't actually submit the password if I type it. And by the way, doesn't reload the page, so if I get this message and then type my password, it will again complain that I'm timed out.

When I delete email as spam, it goes to a Junk Mail folder...still marked "Unread". This gives me a choice between deleting all spam twice, or having to stare at a notification that says "Hey! You know that email you manually flagged as spam? You didn't read it!"

Speaking of spam...example of an email that made it through the spam filter: A 419 scam in a language I don't speak. Example of an email that didn't make it through: A job offer from my university.

I have mixed emotions about firefox. It is bloated and my flash plugin crashes frequently but the FF ABP is way better than chrome's. Also, chrome never knows what I mean when I start typing words into the URL textbox whereas firefox finishes my sentences like a soulmate so I put up with its occasional abuse

i feel the same, and i'll add that chrome not having the "/" to find shortcut is just a horrific oversight, and i remember some forum post where a google engineer was saying they had no plans to ever implement, i forget what the ridiculous reason given was.

In terms of disparity between popularity versus quality, facebook.com is all-time winnar.

OWA and AIM.

Android's default email program.

WTF, Facebook isn't even close to a software hall of shame. This thread should go in the "software hall of shames" hall of shame.

Twitter, that's a site that's had some questionable decisions made.

Facebook's problems haven't been technical.

I put facebook due to poor performance and security issues, perhaps they have resolved them now.

UPDATE: Because of the job offer mixup, I've taken to checking my Junk Mail folder. When I do so I delete confirmed spams, both so I don't have any reason to look at them again and to get rid of the stupid "unread mail" notification.

I just noticed deleting emails from the spam folder sends them to the Recycle Bin.
