i get a lot of requests from bots and always deny and report them but one somehow got through and was showing up as a friend in my yahoo mess list even though i never accepted anything. should i be worried about a trojan? i didn't click any links or did anything.

i'd guess you'd need a time machine to go back to 2001 or something near the last time anyone used yahoo messenger

I use Yahoo email and also get these stupid spambot Messenger requests at the bottom of the page, even though I never use YM.

It is just ridiculous that Yahoo doesn't allow you to configure your settings so that nobody can add you on YM unless they are already on your address list.

Sure, the spammers can't message you without your approval. But they can send these add requests, which is just as time-consuming to deal with.

I can only guess that Yahoo fired all the software engineers, because I can't think of any possible justification why this hasn't been fixed.

No, that doesn't solve the problem. You would think that ticking that box would mean you never heard from spammers. But the spammers are still able to send add-requests, which is just as much of a nuisance and just as time-consuming.

What is needed is an option to 'Block users in my contact list from adding me'
