Finally Got My Degree...Now What?

Hello guys, long time 2+2 lurker (9 or so years)...just looking for some advice going forward as I feel pretty unsure about my next move after recently graduating from college.

TL;DR at bottom.

Little background on my poker "career":

-In HS, made ~$10k without depositing, mainly on PokerStars.
-Turned 18, went to the local casino pretty frequently.
-Ran up live roll to ~$8-$12k 3 times, subsequently blown it all each time (most recently when I chopped a $50k guarantee heads up for ~$13k after taxes this January, one week before my final school semester, ended up losing all but $400 in a four month span).
-Have two quality poker tables at my house (have two roommates who are close friends, located near college campus), run semi-frequent small stakes tourneys and cash games with friends.

School background:

-Graduated with high honors from HS.
-Enrolled at SU in 2010 with a major of Information Management & Technology.
-Got Dean's List Fall 2010, dropped out Spring 2011.
-Returned to SU Fall 2011, got mostly B's, dropped out again Spring 2012.
-Attended local Community College part time from Fall 2012- Fall 2015, mainly taking elective classes that could transfer back over to SU.
-Returned to SU Spring 2015, took classes Summer 2015.
-Took semester off Fall 2015.
-Returned to SU Spring 2016, took classes Summer 2016.
-Took semester off Fall 2016.
-Returned to SU Spring 2017, made Dean's List, walked at graduation.
-Have finished one summer class already, and am taking one more summer class in Summer 2017 (July-August) after which I will have fulfilled all degree requirements.

So, it took me about 7 years, but after this final summer elective I will have finally managed to get my undergrad at the "Best iSchool in the country" at Syracuse University. The two main reasons I believe contributed the most to my college career being delayed were:

-Mental health issues.
-Spending too much time playing poker.

At 24 years old, I know I am still young, but I am still quite unsure as to what I should do with this degree. As far as actual programming, my experience (I feel) is very limited and frankly, looking back, I don't know how I got through an iSchool with such a "reputation" (as they liked to keep pointing out):

-In 2008-2009, took intro/AP computer science in HS, worked with Java (haven't looked at since).
-In Summer 2015, took a two week summer class in HTML(haven't looked at since).
-In Spring 2016, took a semester long class called intro to data science (worked with R).
-In Spring 2017, took a semester long class using SQL (got a B).
-In Summer 2017, took a ONE WEEK graduate level class using R.

Throughout my college career, unfortunately I did not go out of my way to try and get much real world experience that could be used to see if I would even enjoy a career in IT in any facet. Mainly, I was just trying to get a college degree and worry about a potential job after the fact. Well here I am, not very confident in how I even managed to get this degree and fresh off another, frankly, devastating downswing. Sorry for the long post, just hoping for some sort of feedback and/or advice from people who may have been in a similar situation or could shed some insight into what a reasonable next step would be in this silly journey called life...

TL;DR - Went through another crushing downswing, at the same time finished college degree after a 7 year struggle with college. Unsure what to do next.

Thank you for reading.

If you're unsure of your skills, maybe apply for some internships to get your feet wet.

It's pretty strange you could make it through such a program with effectively no programming. What was the main focus of your degree?

A lot of classes were more on the business side (I look at Information Management and Technology, at least based off the types of courses that I took, as a half business half IT degree). There were a lot of different things focused on project management, analyzing information systems, and even a lot with social media (especially during my most recent last few years in college). There was an option to choose a concentration, but it wasn't required and since I was prioritizing grinding 2/5 and doing the bare minimum academically, I brushed aside the formulation of an optimal career path for my post-college life.

That being said, I should end up with about a 3.2 GPA, but am also concerned with all of the breaks/dropouts and how that is going to look to a potential employer.

As far as an internship, that's tough because I'd like to start making money as soon as possible, especially after running terribly and blowing just about all of my winnings from January. Poker wise, I'm going to do my best to stay away from live 1/2-2/5, and try to just play around with a much smaller br on ACR/play a few home games a week. Poker has taken up quite a bit of my time for the last several years, but it's probably time that I treat it much more like a hobby for the foreseeable future...

I can't actually figure out what you got a degree in. What kind of job/work do people with your degree usually do?

Most of the kids that I graduated with already had a job lined up post-college/were headed to grad school, probably due to the fact that they were 100% more proactive in job preparation than me, as well as being much more involved in school functions/activities. I also feel like the continuity these kids had by staying in school straight through the 4 years kept their focus where it needed to be, while me bouncing in and out likely hurt my mind set necessary for ensuring a logical next step post-college.

As far as quitting poker, obviously that would be the best decision. However, a solid amount of my social circle is built around poker, and I genuinely enjoy the game. It has been a significant part of my adult life, for good and for bad.

It doesn't surprise me he went through an information management and technology program and didn't do a lot of programming. I doubt most colleges have merged IT management stuff with programming into a Dev Ops course.

Looking at my school's website for top roles hired with this degree, it lists:

Consultant, Systems Support, Analyst, Developer, Management, Financial Services, Engineer.

There is a more programming-intensive major within SU, located in a different department and titled Computer Science. However, my major did have a few classes that were entirely based on programming.

It's pretty sad that I wasn't even sure what kind of job I was working my way towards. I originally chose the major because it boasted the highest starting salary for undergrad graduates, and my AP class from HS fulfilled one of their requirements.

Sounds like a business degree meant to transition into middle management for IT departments at non-tech or tech companies depending on your program concentration, dedication, and connections.

Most of these aren't *really* job descriptions. I mean, you could literally be a "consultant" or "analyst" in any field.

It does kind of sound like a business degree, I guess. I have zero experience with job tracks for stuff like this. My guess is you're going to have to get some hands on experience through a low level job or internship of some kind, figure out what secondary knowledge and experience you need, and head in that direction.

This seems to be important. What issues are you dealing with and how are you managing them? What kind of support system do you have around you to cope when things aren't going well? It also seems that poker is related to this, though the causal direction is unclear.

Some companies offer paid internships. The big names in tech pay their interns more than the national average salary.

Invite all kinds of recruiters and colleagues to your party, imho. With your leadership, you'll be running the place in no time. Meh, I just want an excuse to party.

Sounds like a good background for something like an IT Auditor / IT Risk Analyst in a Big 4 company.
