I found all the recursion problems to be fairly similar. If you get recursion, you should get it.

Yay done. FU, typewriter. I had it like 95% finished in maybe 15 minutes but it took 2 hours to get it to work properly. I think I need to read up more on recursion.

I basically brute forced the typewriter PS. I had the logic down to what it needed to do but I basically started to go crazy outputting things in a xyz order until it eventually worked.

Btw this might be the best programming related tool I've ever seen:
http://www.pythontutor.com

Being able to visualize the frames like the prof. did in the lectures but with any code clears up so many things.

I never knew how to do tail-call in Python. Looks really sloppy but kinda neat at the same time.

Wow... you're right. That was an awful explanation of sorting.

Yeah. The only one that made a little sense was merge sorting and that's mainly because he took the time to really go over it step by step.

I'm just a very visual person. Seeing the code is extremely important for me to understand it. It's the difference between being totally lost and comfortable enough to explain it to someone who isn't technical because I fully understand it.

6.00x midterm is up. We get 12 hours to finish it.

I got all the coding problems right. The multiple choice questions are annoying and I'm afraid to submit my answers.

87/100. Meh. All deductions on multiple choice questions. At least one of my wrong answers I think was graded incorrectly.

Did you get 13 of the multi-choice questions wrong or did you weigh the score vs the # of questions?

It's pretty easy to tell how much each question is worth. Some are worth 1, some 2.

Yeah when I asked that, I didn't start the test. I see now.

That was a fun exam.

Wow. I started the test and I probably should not have done that. I'm not in programming mode at all right now.

I got page one at 100%, but sheesh, can't even get the first program running correctly. Not sure what kind of nit output they are asking for and can't seem to logic it or something.

**** those graders. What were they looking for on the log and string iteration ones? Strange part is that I got the recursive on on the first shot.

Got 72/100. total disaster.

how much do you need to get to pass the exam? I am nervous because i haven't really prepared and studied that much but passed all the problem sets so far

The first code problem was the hardest one for me too. It tied for being the toughest one with "another one" too which I won't mention here for now.

@LaplaceTransform,
Not sure. Probably somewhere between 60-65 as a bare minimum? I don't know how much weight each exam has either. I thought this was somewhere in the course intro but I can't seem to find it now. Maybe it was the other edx course that had it listed.

Finger exercises - 5%
Problem Sets - 15%
Midterm 1 - 20%
Midterm 2 - 20%
Final - 40%

I think they're grading the exams on a curve because the progress page says they're waiting to see what the distribution of exam scores are.

Per the syllabus 55% is the minimum passing grade for the course.

I think I got 93/100 if all the corrects for the code questions mean 100% correct. All deductions also on multiple choice, mainly the sorting stuff

I also think I got over 90, I screwed up a little bit on the first page lol. I guess I should complete the problem set 5 now

How are you guys figuring your scores? I got a couple of multiple choice questions wrong, but as far as I can tell nothing deducted on the programs. Assuming full credit on the programs I'm looking at 94/100

Problem set 5 was pretty fun. Nothing too challenging in there for me. Sucks that now I have to spend the next few days doing the Rice Python class to keep occupied until new material here.

Clowntable, yeah the Rice Python Class. Warren is the least weird but he's also the most boring. Even at 1.5x speed the videos are painfully slow when he sits there essentially typing up a powerpoint slide as he lectures. I actually kind of like the guy in the tie. He's definitely quirky but I like it. And his lectures seem to be most informative.

If a section is worth 12 points and there's 6 questions then it's probably safe to say each question is worth 2 points so if you got 1 wrong you would be at 98/100.

I got an 87/100 informally with the misses coming from multiple choice.

Well that was tough and long, took me almost 5 hours, would have been screwed if was 3 hour time limit.

Spent the most time on the "lacestrings" problem (4&5).

Managed to get 94/100, I think, needed it as only started the course Monday so have missed a couple of problem set credits. Have been catching up like a madman.... Enjoying it so far though

For the ex-poker players / unemployable, there is a computational investing course going on coursera right now. Pretty easy so far.
