AI- what are the programming issues?

I'm interested in AI and have read various articles about ANI > AGI > ASI. Can anyone explain in layman's terms what the basic programming challenges are to get to AGi and ASI? Thanks so much.

AI has no holdup in my opinion.
A person can go ahead, study the current knowledge and build upon it or get by with what is already existing.
In my opinion, the reason we don't see artificial intelligence doing something that you might find obvious is because there is little demand for it.
Money is the thing that gets things done in this world; having people spend their time to go and do it fast for a reward.
I think a switch to pushing improvements on products; making the possibility to create something as good as a company with infinite money is best thing for society. Programming is pretty much already there, where a person can take their own time and learn to build anything their minds allow. Hardware is nowhere close to that level of everyday people can create. 3d Printers are a good step but they need to get better with robotic modules hooked up to one cpu and not some weak plastic.

The field moves incredibly slowly for such a hot topic. I have a PhD in AI, gained in 1994, and looked back into the field about 3 years ago (for ****s and giggles) after moving straight out of it after my PhD, and was shocked how little it's progressed. I am sure my thesis would not be considered dated still, 20 years on.
