Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'll take a shot here; Is anyone familiar with the game Spanish Monte, as it would have been played in the New Mexico region during the mid-1800's?

I've been trying to find a good source for the rules of this game so I can determine what the house edge would have been, but I haven't had much luck. I'm hoping there's some gambling historians around here who might know a thing or two.

Thanks.

Is this game still played in the southern States?

Not sure.

I live in New Mexico and I've never seen it at any local casinos or anything like that.

Apparently in the 1800's there were 100+ monte tables in Sante Fe, and sometimes bets as large as 10k-40k were booked, which is equivalent to 250,000k to 1 Mil in today's dollars.

I never did find enough info on the rules to determine a house edge, I was trying to determine whether or not the house would've needed to cheat in order to consistently crush (it was for a history research project).
