so I remember reading a paper in college by fukyama (sp?) called the end of history, and his thesis was there would never be another challenge to Western liberal democracy.
communism and fascism had failed and there would be no ideological challenge for the rest of time.
clearly he wasn't familiar with militant Islam but assuming democracy prevails what do you think will be the next major IDEOLOGICAL challenge to democracy.
I'm not talking about if you think China or Russia will take over as the hegemon etc as neither of them would come from an ideological pov.

"Corporate" democracy. Where we are already at essentially, and approaching an even more Dystopian version of in the future, where our political parties are merely representatives of large corporate interests and wealthy donors, and on the small scale "mom & pop" businesses being unable to compete and becoming mostly nonexistent, instead forcing civilization to submit their Walmart masters for basic goods and services.

I agree with your vision of the future but don't think it counts for the purposes of the question.
I'm talking about an ideology fundamentally opposed to democracy not one that coopts it/perverts it.

This is a history forum; not a predict the future forum or even a current events forum. As interesting as your question may be it belongs in the politics forum or perhaps even in SMP, but not here. Thread is closed. Please read the sticky on what posts are legal in this forum.
