History behind theTranscontinental Railroad

Anything in the past had its own root or reason why it existed. For me, I became curious with the railroad's construction in US and its history. The construction of a transcontinental railroad was one of the United States' greatest technological achievements. The First one was built in the 1860. I think the understanding of its history behind the building of the railroad must be read in order to appreciate how railroad men work. The photographs that was captured by Andrew Russell about East and West Shaking Hands at Laying Last Rail” gives us an idea that the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad is celebrated with a handshake.
