How would you rank Chris Paul, Wade, and Kobe when comparing their best seasons?

I also had a very good few years betting CFL football when the league added the American teams. Some of the American teams had NFL dimension stadiums (10 yard endzones field not as wide etc) and the lines didn't properly account for this. I forget what year this was but I remember I started out betting around 100-200 a game and by the end of the year I was betting 2-3k a game. It was really a joke.
Great story about CFL betting. I've heard stories from other sharps about some of the wacko CFL lines they've seen.

Do you still follow the CFL? I'm originally from Regina, Sask. which makes me a huge Saskatchewan Roughriders fan.

Thanks for the well and GL in NBA job pursuit.

rank the best 5 poker players u ever played against.
04-18-2010 , 09:22 AM
When you were betting, did you do much futures betting on championships or was it all individual games?
04-18-2010 , 09:37 AM
You made an all-in bet with the Lakers winning it all back in 2000. Obviously, the Blazers' inability to close the deal got you where you are today. Knowing that, if you were to go back in time, would you still make the same bet?

bob-

do you think cuban has been a detriment to the mavs, and, do you think he's been good for the league?

hypothetical lineup: (assume all players are in their prime)

which one would you pick?

lineup A: Steve Nash, Charles Barkley, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Micheal Jordan
lineup B: Lebron James, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabar

What's the biggest pot you've ever won? Biggest pot lost?

Do you play above your bankroll, under your bankroll, or do you even keep your poker money separate from your other monies?

If you could buy any car today, what would it be?

Have any sick recreational gambling stories? i.e., putting $10,000 on 7 and hitting, or splitting aces five times when you were already tripling your bet, or maybe a story about a game where you would have won a huge score if someone hadn't hoisted up a meaningless 3-pointer in a blowout that killed the under?

Also, can you tell us more about this bet. I have heared it once before but i would like to hear it again. Thanks. Always been one of my favorite.

To follow up, how do you see your life going if this bet goes the other way?

Given the Donaghy(sp?) scandal and the absolute epicness of the Kings/Lakers playoff series in the early 2000's, do you think that without his biased officiating that the Kings would have prevailed?

Are you familiar with quantitative arbitrage and can it be applied to NBA betting i.e the hedging of Overs/Unders with various Handicaps in running with straight win odds as they are all linked via discreet random variables?

Also, do you use regression models for live trading or is it based on analysis of the match? I.e. are you a maths or feel based person?

Finally, please tell me briefly about a nba/college game you think or know to have been fixed.

Many thanks.

Thanks for doing this Bob, it's appreciated.

Do you have a background in mathematics or statistical analysis? There seem to be quite a few people from these fields posting on various other forums who haven't been as successful with their models as yourself. I don't recall a math/stat background in anything I've read/heard about you, which makes your work even more impressive.

Roughly, What % of your plays were quarter totals, half totals or game totals?

Now that you're no longer betting, what keeps you occupied while pursuing an NBA job?

In regards to a front office job, what are you looking for in an organisation?

Besides the 2+2 NBA thread, do you actively participate in NBA discussion elsewhere?

2009/2010 Champions?

Thread another reminder how much casual fans overrate Kobe, even if APBR guys might underrate him. How do people still not know that LBJ is a good deal better than Kobe and has been for years?

Do you think Josh Smith is a good defensive player?
Who would you rather have at C next year for one season if starting a team, Pau or Duncan?
Do you think APM is the best overall statistical value of a player (of metrics currently available to the public)? Why or why not?
If you knew you'd get Oden healthy for 70 games, how many players in the NBA would you pick before him for next season?

How difficult has it been attempting to find employment in the NBA, given your background in gambling?

What type of jobs, if any have you been offered?

What type of job, specifically would you want?

Would you refuse a job offer from certain organizations, or are you at a point where you will take whatever you can get?

How old are you?

Do you live in Vegas?

Did you gamble on other sports other than NBA basketball (MLB, NHL, etc.?)

First offshore bet was when, mid 90's? Do you remember phone accounts or is that before your time?

Ever lose a large sum of money when a sportsbook went under?

+ a million

Kobe isn't a top 5 player in the league right now and its laughable to suggest that hes even comparable to LBJ

Hey Bob I always liked listening to you on big poker sundays.

Ever gonna buy that CFL team?

hope you're doing well

I have a bunch of questions. If you don't feel like answering them all, thats totally understandable.....

-Can you talk a bit about the value of a steal as it relates to the risk/reward of gambling for one? Obviously a possession that starts with a steal will net your team significantly higher points on average than a normal possession, so they have a good deal of value. Yet when guys like CP3(ton of steals, poor counterpart data) make 1st Team All Defense, I'm skeptical.

-Similar to the above question, can you talk about the value of an offensive rebound? Considering the disparity among regular possessions and possessions that start after an offensive rebound, do you think NBA teams underrate players who o-rebound well? Basically do you think the Trailblazers team building philosophy is the optimal one?

-C Viggity asked about Josh Smith's defense in particular, and I'm interested as well, but I was wondering if you could instead make a generalized statement about the value of help defense from a post player(Josh Smith's biggest strength) vs the value of him locking down his own man(Smith is well below average here).

-Why don't you post in the NBA Season thread more?

-Are you familiar with kbfc(poster here on 2p2) and his work? In particular there are two things he believes from this past season which I am skeptical about:

1. P Gasol was one of the 5 best players this past season because he turned into a well above average defensive player(and has always been elite offensively). The reason I'm skeptical here is because the addition of Artest to go along with a solid defender in Kobe has to have helped his numbers a ton in certain metrics, and its tough to believe that some "soft Euro" all of a sudden went from a below average defender to a well above average one.

2. Dirk is way overrated because pulling your big man away from the basket and thus missing out on the offensive rebound opportunities has much more negative value than people think. The reason I'm skeptical here is because I think you can build around that weakness by getting above average rebounders at other positions(i.e. Kidd, Marion).

-Can you talk about the value of having the majority of your FGs being unassisted? In other words, do you think Durant is getting a bit overrated because in comparison to other stars(LBJ, Wade, Kobe, Roy) a large percentage of his FGs are assisted.

Who deserves to be ROY this year? Ty evans (20-5-5), B.Jennings (playoff team), or Steph Curry.

Will this player actually win ROY this year?

Sick well HV. Thanks.

Who is your favorite team to watch? Player?

Do you think that the fast-loose-jack up shots asap-styles of D'antoni or Nellyball can ever win a championship?

Do you have any thoughts about where Lebron will be playing next year? What combination of this summer's free agents would contend for a championship year after year?

Does Mike Brown receive an undeserved amount of criticism? What percentage of NBA coaches do you think should not have a job?

Do you play basketball? Any other athletic endeavors?

nice questions assani.

Who do you think was the best post player in their prime. David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Shaq, or Olajuwon? I think Olajuwon over the 3 or 4 years at his peak is the best big man I've ever seen and I'm a spurs fan.

Here's a question about questions

What are some of the open questions that you are still exploring with your data?

Have you been approached by academics for collaborative work?
04-18-2010 , 02:14 PM
Do you think it's still possible to make a good living sportsbetting?

If so, how could you give a gameplan for getting into it? Assume a strong background in math, statistics and programming.
