I'm of the opinion that outside of the really elite players like Lebron and Kobe, lots of NBA stars are manufactured/marketed by their teams and get the lion's share of shooting opportunities to make it so (Gilbert Arenas, Alan Iverson comes to mind).

Thank you for the thread.. A few pretty broad questions that come to mind.

Back when you were betting NBA, Can you give us a rough/general example of your betting habits in a typical week. For example, lets pretend your bankroll was 100x. What was your average betsize in relation to x? How many bets did you place on average per week? Did you spread the amounts quite a bit or not very much at all and if so what was your range unit wise?? Also, Did you ever tilt and bet a late random 2H side where there was no real value because you were 1-5 on the day or were you really disciplined and responsible?? Any info and BR managemint tips (in relation to Sportsbetting, not poker) would be appreciated..

Also, Im a decent hoops fan but was definitely ignorant on the corner 3 thing.. Of the 30 NBA coaching staffs, are there any that completely ignore this concept or do all the staffs understand this and actually try and do something about it? Also, I dont follow the NBA like I once did, but there use to be terrible end of quarter management.. like not going for 2 posessions when you inbound or rebound the ball with 38 seconds left, or shotclock is off and you take a contested shot with 9 seconds left...Is that still really common or have players gotten smarter and better coached?

I don't know anything about basketball but I want to coach high school basketball one day and take a bunch of players around/under 6 feet with limited athletic ability (compare to African Americans) to the promise land.

If you were to coach this group of players, what steps would you take to give your team a chance to win (ie the corner 3 in the NBA)? What style would your team play? What strategies would you use considering that high school basketball players aren't that skillful but are vastly superior in athletic ability?

If the answer is too long/broad, do you have any recommendation on books/sites/blogs where I can learn basketball theory/fundamentals so I can exploit other team's weakness?

In general I would flat bet around 5% of my betting bankroll. In the 2004 season however I was pretty much betting as much as I could get down at specific numbers.

This was probably pretty foolish because the lines started to move a lot after my bets and it made what I had been doing for most of my betting career very difficult to do as the books+followers sort of caught on to some of what I was doing.

from 2006 on I pretty much had to rethink entirely what I was doing and that is when I really started to get into more of a model based regression derived approach.

Most teams understand the importance of getting 2 possessions vs 1 at the end of a quarter - but not all teams do.

as for the FT question I'd have to say Prahlad.

i saw you mention that in your opinion, regular season performance is the best predictor of playoff success, but have you found that certain types of players or certain types of lineups are more effective in the playoffs?

given that you seem to agree that playoff basketball is distinct from regular season - your heat comment - that there are many fewer possessions as teams tighten up, it would seem that this would affect the outcomes you expect from different types of players under the different circumstances.

totally understand if you don't want to share specific insights, as i would imagine projecting playoff skill would be highly valuable proprietary info, just looking for insight into how you would approach this concept.

similarly, given your discussions of lineups and how you swap players in and out and run simulations to see the differences, i imagine that you could take some player X and figure out on which NBA team (which teammates, coaches, plays) he would be the most effective player he could be. if this is possible:
which (decently good) player's value is depressed the most by his circumstances?
are there any players who couldn't perform any better on any other team?
