Re: Weed and poker

I was just about to start a session of tournaments and was debating whether or not to get high. This thread hasn't helped at all.

Re: Weed and poker

it's really individual i would think. some people can't concentrate on anything but the euphoric feeling of being high. stoners on the other hand can... so if you're used to being high and doing everyday activities then i would say: load up the roor bong (all high stakes players should have at least one!) and take a huge rip, put on your favorite playlist and start crushing. obviously reload the bong immediately if you start "coming down", because once you start the decline from your peak, you will start playing suboptimally/bad.
i don't necessarily think you will play better because you are high, but it will let you grind out longer sessions without getting bored. on top of that you will be more indifferent to suck outs and bad beats.
hope that helps!

its amazing to me how many HS players take breaks to go to their cars and blaze up. i can say, unequivocally, that they all play worse (and smell worse). as said before though the attitude does stay positive even after doing something massively stupid (like 3 betting me w/ aj and calling my 4 bet only to see AK on an a hi flop)

to be fair, i'd say they're either:
a) bad at poker to begin with
b) not comfortable being high in a casino setting

in short; weed doesn't generally make people do things they normally wouldn't do. of course, there are always exceptions.

Re: Weed and poker

id say 'yes' in terms of volume... but its kind of confusing.

if you're a normal person, you're gonna wanna go out with friends, have hobbies, etc.
if you smoke weed all day, you're perfectly content sitting in a comfy chair watching tv (or grinding poker).

however there comes to a point where your amotivational symptoms will be like "im rich, i dont need to play poker anymore"

in terms of thought process:

for certain people (adhd types) it does feel like you're 'in the zone', and can soul read people and have higher confidence.

in terms of networking:

a lot of poker players smoke. you can meet a lot of good players this way and get advice from them (because you're normally sitting around a house), while if you go out drinking you probably won't be talking about hands.

Re: Weed and poker

i think its definitly good to smoke when ur not playing and ur analyzing ur game/leaks, because it makes it alot more fun to do that and you might have some thoughts you wouldnt have sober.

i dont think its good while playing except for massgrinders maybe because they play like bots anyways and to keep up volume is much easier

I have been diagnosed with ADHD and have played a lot of "high" stakes, and this is true, but almost always has had a negative impact on my game. If you need a false sense of confidence to play poker, something is inherently wrong with your game.

As far as the networking stuff, I definitely agree to a point.
