I was hanging out with Elvis when I happened to read his post directed towards Iggy. I figured WTF, I don't even want the 6 games. Truthfully, had I realized what an expert he is with regards to tennis betting, I may not have made the bet. It's not like I care though. It was only $400K.

Does not compute. Do you mean you want them to be fake and act less confident then they are?

I get what you're saying about the clothes to a certain degree, but the overall cocky attitude is standard for top players.

idea: read rest of post. i include a list of top players of similar or better relative ilk who do not act that way and are actually incredibly well spoken. in fact, apart from them, jmac, roddick (much much better recently), and very very few others (i can't even think of any) it's clearly far from standard.

i think federer is extremely cocky and confident when he has his whole 'fake humbleness' gig but even then he is trying to be a respectful emissary of the game.

they don't try. they don't care. and that's fine for some. personally i don't like it at all.

i don't really get the secrecy thing. it's awesome to have gotten to that level (and the one you seem to have reached, dangerfish, tres, etc.) and obviously still be able to hold your own against basically anybody.

i think most people wouldn't even know and for those who would, it's great.

this thread turned out to be awesome and a great read. thanks to all for posting and i'd love to see this match on video but i highly doubt ba/pa would allow/want that.

i think there'd be folks who would do this for free b/c it'd be awesome. if not, shouldn't cost much.

prob wanna make a list of all the key stats.
- winners
- unforced errors
- forced errors
- aces
- doubles
- #approaches
- #points won at net
- break points
- break points won

ideally we'd get first serve %, first serve points won, and the %points won when first serve goes in/%points won on second serve but those are probably much harder to manually track.

anybody wanna volunteer who's going?

BA what are your thoughts on the surface? Since Patrik grew up playing indoors and you probably seldom played indoors are you at a significant disadvantage? Or did you think not having to face the elements of sun and wind helps you more then him?

donkey_king --- yeah, that's cool. but you'll have to tell me which side before day of. and you'll need a method for conveying to me how much you want to bet in a low-key way before the match starts.

I think hard court is my best surface. Pat thinks clay is his best. Indoor is pretty neutral i think. I've played a lot of indoor in boston.

paging Fly...

EDIT: I just don't get why people care how athletes act off the court. Not saying you're crazy to care, I just don't get it.

You don't get why they care or you don't think they should care? Pretty big difference. I do care a lot because I can't help but judge an athlete as a person as well as a sportsman. Seems a bit boring if you don't and besides isn't it almost impossible not to? I mean some dude gets caught for rape and I am supposed to ignore that? Kinda an extreme example I will concede that. As far as current tennis players go, I think men's tennis is in good hands with Roger and Rafa in terms of ambassadors for the sport.

If you haven't seen this clip, it is a gem.

doubles between rafa and andre vs rog and pete

Couldnt agree more Dangerfish, Rog and Raga to me are way better ambassadors then Pete or Andre. They both love the sport and can see it everytime they serve em up.

I don't think they should care.

I'm especially confused about the Venus/Serena hate regarding this issue because, for the most part, they are quite courteous in their interviews. They also help a lot of kids with their charity work, and they have helped grow the popularity of the sport.

I don't think that athletes are under any obligation to be ambassadors of the game or anything like that. However I do expect them to behave as well as I'd expect any other person to behave. The entire Williams family fails pretty hard on that scale.

Cliff notes on Ziplok:

-Ziploc writes “I managed to win a 4k bet on the match!” in regards to a tennis wager that he claims to have placed
-Someone questions Ziploc….claiming he would have lost the wager if he had placed this bet
-Ziploc proves he knows nothing about sports betting lines while still hilariously claiming “tennis odds can be pretty far off”
- Ziploc still tries to maintain his innocence stating he had made this wager with another forum member who he will not mention
-Ziploc finally concedes that he made this all up
-Quick search shows this guy is playing micro stakes

I nominate this guy for dumbest person on twoplustwo.

i may have a disproportional amount of hate being laid out there for the williamses but i dont think you can simply "not care" about their behavior and attitude if you really love the sport. i mean i guess you can but i think most who do love it would think ill of their behavior and attitude.

Don't bet against Brandon, he's given this a lot more thought than you may think

Since we are on page 27 of discussing this bet, I don't think I am underestimating Brandon's devotion to thinking about his match with Antonius. I might need a bit more convincing before I believe he has the best of it in this bet.

P.S warning dually noted

High stakes gambler wants to partake in bet where he thinks he has an edge??? This is not right!!!

Page 27? Clearly not a forum pro.

I guess I'm looking at it compared to football/basketball/baseball where players are constantly getting arrested, and actually causing real problems off the field.

Afaik neither of the Williams sisters have ever had a problem with the law.

I guess it would help me understand if you could go into specifics on this a bit more. I understand if you don't care to.

i think most of the hate for the williams's's's' stems from how much people hate Richard Williams

anybody in the OC area 5.0+ want to hit, you can PM if you've had a long layoff but can still hit. That's cool I'm in the same boat? I just got my rackets last week and kind of got the bug. If need be I can get a vid of me hitting. BTW I tried the RPM Blast, felt ok for the first set then the tension went to hell and I strung it at 60 lbs. My imagination or they lose tension fastttt?
02-01-2011 , 03:42 PM
NLnewb--I will get out and hit some balls with you but I will need that video first. Strange about the string. I am a huge fan of it, but I string it way looser.

PM me, and I am ****** with you about the video. I would be a bit concerned if anyone actually requests that.
