^ i dont see anything unusual with what happened to u piranha

considering u just opened the account and r doing large transactions, this is pretty standard

banks r more lenient when u have some history with them, since u dont have any history they will be more strict. also by law in Canada, transactions $10k+ r flagged and reported to the government.

Yeah it's the same in the US as well, they are reported to the IRS. I didn't make any transactions over 10K but a number in the 6-9K range so it's possible that's what raised a flag and triggered a call.

They called me back this afternoon and asked me why I wasn't withdrawing directly from MoneyBookers to my US bank account to avoid fees and I explained that MB doesn't allow that. That was the extent of that call, I have a feeling I'll be getting a call tomorrow - I don't like my chances at this point.

ya i think the multiple 6-9k ones probably triggered it, especially if it was done in short succession. banks consider this structuring and it is actually worse then just doing a 10k+ one.

gl in getting things cleared up

Try using a exchange account to move money like xe.com there are many benefits by doing this. You can basically move money through ACH/EFT no wire fees and 1 percent conversion rates (banks charge 3 percent). You can also initiate transactions online. Their sign up process is involved and they might call you, but once your approved your set.

Great advice, thanks. Going to check it out.

can you hook up moneybookers to xe.com or oanda.com?

FYI I was denied from setting up an hsbc premier account this week. They refused to give me any specific reasoning, even after multiple calls and emails.

Not from what I've researched...maybe someone else knows. Would be sweet if we could cash out from Stars to xe.

I'm gonna research this tomorrow as I'm too lazy/tired tonight, but couldn't we go from Stars>Moneybookers>Ebay>US bank?? I've never really used Ebay so not sure how it works.

eBay is not a financial service, they use PayPal

Is it OK to use our US passport as our government picture ID when changing country of residence for stars?

No one's said anything about it, so I'm assuming yes, but wanted to double check and be prepared. thanks guys

Yes, you HAVE to use it as well as another government ID (Driver's license).

I'm wondering same thing. Does anyone have an answer for this? I'm more curious about the 2nd part of his question? Once you get there and say you're staying 6 months and they grant that, can you fly back and forth for a holiday, wedding, etc.??

You only need your passport. It would technically be at the discretion of the border guard each time you re-enter Canada. I'm pretty sure a few people have been traveling back and forth without much problem. I'm not leaving here until I reach SNE which will hopefully be by the 10th of Dec. I just don't wanna risk it but you would probably be ok for the most part.

Hey all,
I have a Canadian USD and CDN account. When I transfered from stars to my USD account they transfered it in CDN.
Is there a way to get them to transfer it in USD since I will write checks for my US bills from that account?
Thanks

All banks seem to be accepting US players (except maybe Scotia, I forget). In fact, there seems to be more variation from branch to branch than from bank to bank. Try TD or CBIC imo. If you get it in USD, you will only be able to cashout there from Stars via MoneyBookers.

I went to a local credit union (Van City) and had literally zero problem. I haven't tried to deposit on PS yet though.

Should i open my Canadian Checking account in USD or CAD.
I see people say it may pose a problem down the road if i do it in USD, has anyone had any problems yet?
CAD will cost an extra 3-6% it appears for conversions, but seems to be the most secure way of avoiding any troubles with the bank?

would really like to talk to someone who has successfully relocated. am leaving for toronto very soon. please pm me if you could help me out by answering a few questions

got a ton of info today and feel pretty good. big thanks to the guys who pmed me. the one outstanding issue is the conversation with the border agent. some guys prefer plainly explaining that you will be playing a lot of poker and seem to think theres a small chance of getting rejected, others prefer to not mention poker. would really appreciate hearing more about this. also cannot find a definitive answer on if you must have a return flight booked or not. thanks for any help.

Update:

Received letters via express mail today that all my HSBC accounts are closed. This after telling them exactly what I was doing, including the amount of money that would be coming through the account at account opening. I payed them $3500 in wire transfer/money conversion fees as well.

I knew this wasn't going to be easy.
