Obsessive-compulsive. Every time I leave my apt have to open/close the door 3x while chanting "itchy nissan".

I found this test to be more accurate: http://similarminds.com/jung.html

It gives you questions where you can vote on a scale of how strongly you feel. I came out as INTJ on the origional test. On this one i came out INTP.

Introverted (I) 70.59% Extroverted (E) 29.41%
Intuitive (N) 58.82% Sensing (S) 41.18%
Thinking (T) 79.41% Feeling (F) 20.59%
Perceiving (P) 61.54% Judging (J) 38.46%

I am a lot closer on the N and the S and the P and the J. Is anyone willing to do some analysis to tell me what this more than likely means, and what my strengths and weaknesses are likely to be? I looked at profiles for INTJ and INTP and relate to them quite well. I am more interested in what it means to have similar NS and PJ traits. Its very obvious that im thinking and introverted.

On closer inspection of the NS traits i think im definitely more N although i scored close. I am a lot more introspective in thought sensing and paying attention to the external. However i relate quite well to both. So maybe. Apparently its quite rare to show strong characteristics of both. meh.

I am mid stakes winning grinder fwiw.

if INTPs are the least common (by far) occurring personality in the general population and they are the second most common among poker players, wouldn't that make them the personality best suited for the profession?

Yeah, INTP and INTJ appear to be the best. I am close on preference between the S and the N though. Although i think the test might just suck cos i clearly relate to the N much more than the S.

Anyone know if it's generally a good thing to score 100% Intuitive as INTP for a pokerplayer? What exactly does it mean? thx

INTP
11-62-38-33 (strength of preferences)

I think the test is a good one - I know some people are complaining about it being "yes/no" - but the idea is which one you prefer... and there are 72 questions.. I'm sure that if it gave you 1-5 or something, you might get a slightly more exact score, but I think that some people would have a hard time judging exactly 1-5 for themselves for many questions, and thus badly influence the test that way - whereas I think with a yes/no dichtomy you can get it right almost every time with a little thought and self-honesty.

FWIW I think I am an INTP... another thing is when you read it, just remember the strength of your preferences!!

INTJ then and INTJ still.

I would really like to know how this measures against the general population (not the ones taking these tests since the Internet is probably full of *NT*-people.)

INFJ

The most important function for poker is the N function. Intuitives are the quick thinkers, those who make great leaps connecting disparate ideas. Intuitives can usually be found in the top 3 in their class, or they are the misunderstood misfit genius but still intelligence is the common factor. It is a mistake to connect the Thinking function with intelligence. It is actually the intuitive function that denotes quick minds and fast processing power. The reason NTJ types may be proportionally drawn to poker in greater numbers is because it fits in with their dominant (introverted Intuition) and secondary (extroverted Thinking) functions.

However an INFJ can be just as successful at poker and may even have advantages over other NTJ types --- and I'm thinking specifically of the emotional psychological part of the poker game.

For an NTJ their secondary function Thinking acts as the enabler to triggering their interest in learning poker. For myself as an INFJ my second function is extroverted Feeling, which kicks into my life before my 3rd function introverted Thinking does. However my extroverted Feeling function has been developed now and I can enlist this as a strength into my game and use it to reduce what poker players call tilt, or to my advantage when others go on tilt.

My 3rd function in my INFJ functional stack is introverted Thinking. I am using myTi to learn the game of poker. The T introvreted function likes to learn by coming to an understanding of the whole system before taking action. NTJ extroverted Thinking likes to set goals and take practical steps towards achieving said goal and does not require a complete understanding before commencing action toward their goals.

I as an INFJ introverted Thinker want to have a complete understanding of poker before I commence playing for real. To that end my strategy and plan is to study and read the approx 65 interesting poker books I have found on Amazon -- I plan to spend a year investing in my pre-cursor poker education before committing myself to playing the game online --- the stage an NTJ would begin at but will take me another year before I deem myself ready to begin at 0.50 / 1.00 NLH level.

The 4th functional stack in INFJ is extroverted perception. Extroverted perception is the opposite of my introverted intuition and once I develop this function and integrate it into my personality it will act as the driver for my introverted intuition to make a practical use of my intuitive abilities. Introverted intuitives have a tendency to dream and theorise without making practical use of their many gifts. Extroverted peception will act as the reality check for this in me and keep me grounded and drive me towards practical steps.

The reason you might not encounter many INFJ's in poker circles is not because they are not suited to poker, but that they are not interested in poker, because it conflicts with their extroverted Feeling values, whereas an NTJ has no such value conflct and so you find poker circles dominated by NTJ type. However this does not necessarily mean the NTJ is 'more' suited than other N types.

So in summary I believe the INFJ is eminently suited to succeeding at poker if they can overcome their values conflicts.
