yea i use this too.

i wouldn't leave this up to a vote, i'd pick the name that is easiest to remember (usually short names that are easy to spell fit the bill).

when people try to find things on the internet the overwhelmingly most popular way is to google donkish phrases about the subject. people looking for your site are going to google variations of "rap meanings, rap lyric meanings, rap lyrics, or "[song title] meaning"

it's unlikely that any decent URLs are available on the cheap, so i'd buy an easy to remember domain and hope that i could build enough content and link traffic to organically move up the google rankings. word of mouth will also be huge but it's really something you can't control, just make sure you have an easy URL to remember.

Also, this is a pretty cool site, I just read the A Milli song, and here's what I posted as a guest
For the line "It ain't trickin' if you got it"
The word trickin' for guys means spending more money on a girl than you can afford just to impress her, i.e. (trickin' her into thinkin' you're a baller.). So there is a common phrase "It ain't trickin' if you got it", meaning, if you got the money, you can spend it freely and you're not "trickin" her.

FWF, consider option of having right side scroll down with page so you can pause the song as you're going through without having to scroll all the way up

I laughed a bit when I saw this site. 'discover the meaning of rap'

Who wrote these 'explanations'? I sure hope it was the original artist, otherwise what qualifies someone else to break down another persons music like this. It's like your trying to solve the songs or something? Just listen and enjoy. Yeah people who aren't from the same place as these guys wont get some of the stuff, but is it really so important?

You're right. Let's get the Internet Regulatory Agency on the phone right away. Unsubstantiated opinions have no place on the Internet.

I think as cute and clever as the other names are, polling this forum is not really going to get you the objectively best website name - assuming you plan to make money off of it (or somebody does), it's really a marketing decision, not an aesthetic one, and I'm not sure that this board is a great sample source? Or maybe it is. I think rapgenius is probably the best name TBH, although rapunwrapped is cute and aesthetically better.

But its not being marketed as opinions. If the slogan was 'discuss the meaning of rap songs' (or something a little more catchy) then its fine, but they are promoting the site as giving the exact meanings of songs.

Only the original artists know the meanings of their songs. A lot of the time it will just be a case of those lyrics sound good and fit with the music.

People get way too deep about music.

Agreed. You should try to get sparknotes taken down too for giving analysis of fiction that didn't originate from the author. THEY'RE JUST STORIES.

there is a decent amount of traffic to be had from the search engines w/ actual lyrics phrases as well.

personally i voted 'rapopedia' but regardless of your URL you won't start off the bat getting any type-in traffic. anything catchy and easy to remember / say will work.

just use SEO to build up some traffic from Google and company and definitely push it on not just the big social networks (twitter, fb, etc...) but the niche ones (blackplanet, urbanchat, etc...) - either by buying some impressions there or getting creative. drive some G adwords content network traffic to a landing page w/ some signup incentive and you could gain steam pretty quickly i bet.

option 4 looks too much like 'rape' something

I checked on both RapLyric.com and RapLyrics.com

Owners wanted $20k and $18k for them. Might be too pricey for this but I still think you should buy a quality domain that you didn't register yourself.

Are you only considering domain names with "rap" in them?

What about "RhymesUnraveled"

It seems easy to remember, and sounds good to me.

You need rap in there if you want to get ranked well in Google as thats the term most people will be searching for
10-27-2009 , 12:18 AM
rapfiend.com, ldo

Otherwise, rapunwrapped easily the best, very descriptive.

I think rapunwrapped is unreasonable because it doesn't really roll of the tongue. rapopedia is easier to say and remember. Also it sounds kind of like wikipedia so people will instantly have an idea of what it is you're going for.

rapopedia is more missleading than anything imo. if the site was going to be a historical database of anything & everything hiphop-related i could see rapopedia, but obviously this isn't what they're going for.
