No history on villain, he is a good reg from what I know, this is one of the first hands in:

$10/$20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 2 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $2,049 (102.5 bb)
Hero (SB): $2,010 (100.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A Q
Hero raises to $45, BB raises to $170, Hero calls $125

Flop: ($340) A 9 9 (2 players)
BB bets $130, Hero calls $130

Turn: ($600) T (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

River: ($600) 7 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $390, BB raises to $1,749 and is all-in

I know betting the turn is standard and wouldn't put me in this spot but as played my range is fairly capped and I know I am very likely to get attacked when I bet the river. I never have a 9 or better here so AQ is top of my range.
Upon thinking about this for a while other than Ax hands with no kicker I can't really think of what else he would take this line as a bluff with. 8x with no diamonds?

wow sir
it wa an interesting hand
i think the bet was designed to make you fold one pair hand
i think that he thinks that your check on turn show weakness
his line make no sense to me with value hands

SB should be acting first on every street, not the BB.

I don't know why you check on the turn. 3-bet villian range at the very lowest is going to be TT, AJ, & AQ. The board texture is dry. A good reg would likely go all in if he had AA, TT...

Betting at every street on this type of board with top pair will be +EV.

River is snap fold.

how is river a snap fold?

You realize this is heads up and BB acts first in heads up.

i'm probably not folding for 100bb - he is repping a boat or 9x.
If he has you - it's kind of a cooler based on the action.

I also might consider 4betting pre

a lot of good regs like to start out with a weak 3bet to see where the game is going to go. AQs is pretty much the nuts in one of the first hands dealt

To OP: I think folding this against a "good reg" is way to weak. As you mentioned you pretty much never check back 9x on the turn so AQ gotta be top of ur range.

This is pretty weird. As played I'd probably just call it off.

How long did he wait before checking river.

How long did you take to make your river bet?

How long did he think before shoving you with his check raise?

if he tanked before checking river you should probably be more inclined to fold. If his river check was "in line" with his standard timing for actions but his c/r was after some time, I would call. If he snap raised your river bet, i would be more inclined to fold, but probably still call.

If you tanked before vbetting river you should snap call this.

4bet pre?

Once it's checked to you on the turn i'd half pot it

River bet is obviously fine

I think he leads 99, A9s, TT, 77 etc a decent amount on the river given action (or lack of) on the turn. This is very much dependant on what reads you think he has on you, if you're capable of checking turn with hands which would fit the criteria of "top of your range" (this protects you in spots similar to this in the future) then his C/shoving the river hand range would have to be weighted more towards value than bluffs.

The problem here is you're river bet isn't really repping all that much which can take heat from the shove. what kinda hands you calling the 3b with? Maybe 97s, 77, all combos of A9 which can happily click call.

I think its a reasonable spot to bluff so I probably click call
