Imo AK/K9/96 don`t make sense for both of us. That leaves 98/97/T9/Q9 what beats me.
These are a lot of combinations which makes sense, but on the other hand a lot of them would bet turn and perhaps not overshove the river.

i think he played 88 pretty tricky and knew you wouldn't check a 9 on the riv

I don't see why he can't have AK. And even if you rule that out there's no reason he can't have a random 9. However, I think it might be more important that it's really hard for you to have a straight here. Add that to the fact that he just open shoves and I think I'd call.

he knows that if you're calling $1,000-1,200 given this board, you're calling a shove for $1,977.

how can you possibly not know what to do against him, he is probably top 3 worst 25/50 players and no way a winner at 10/20

If he doesn`t show me a 9 i am winning 99% of the time

his line looks a lot like T9s or air. I have no read on his frequencies of either though so can't really help. you could certainly say he attempted a cheap bluff raise, gave up on a bad turn card, then shoved when you checked on a scary river card. equally T9s might raise the flop to try to take it down cheaply without having to hit, checks back when it picks up SD value, and then jams the river when it makes the nizzles.

I guess I would want to know why you think he cant have AK here? Becuz he didn't 4-bet pre? I think his range is now str8 or air and I don't think it is air enough to warrant a call. T9 seems to be right in the wheelhouse.

At first. Proba he 4bets AK, if not i can`t see a reason for him to check turn.
Ok he got 4 additional out( if he think his 1 pair out are good here), but i think if he decided to bluff flop he would continue on turn
