Best Place to live as Commerce Live Pro? Best Place to live as Commerce Live Pro?

Thinking of moving to LA at some point in the next few years. Looking at real estate markets and Commerce, California seems pretty poor. Where do the high stakes guys live that is relatively close to the casino and a nice area?

Hollywood, Santa Monica. (20-25 min Drive) (Still Ghetto & Scummy)

Most celebs, are further up by Calabasas Thousand Oaks Area. (30-45min)

Whether coming from Orange, Lancaster, or Camarillo a good portion of people who grind @ commerce drive 1-1.5 Hrs Each way.

Southern California is one huge hood basically with very very small pockets of good areas. You have to put up with at least 45 min drive from casino to live in crime free area.

I have no problem driving, what other areas beside Thousand Oaks Area are good areas to live but not to far from Commerce. Thanks for the response!

Also would you recommend living in Las Vegas or LA if you were a live pro?

pasadena is pretty nice and not bad commute (relatively speaking of course)

if you provided a few more details wrt what you're looking for in an area aside from pure distance to commerce could help narrow it down (ie would you like to live near a beach, good nightlife, etc).

do you want a house or apt, do you have kids etc.

Lol at Santa Monica being ghetto

Good nightlife would be more important to me than a beach. But i'd like both if possible. I'd like a condo more than a house or apt. But i'd rather have a house over an apartment.

No kids, single white dude in his 20's.

Also do you guys think a live pro would prefer Vegas or LA?

Starting @ Pacific Palisades, and all the towns running down the 1 is probably best fit.

Culver City is a good place. 30 minutes or less to all major casinos with no traffic. Good night life. Santa Monica and Venice are near by as well as downtown la which is 15 minutes. Good safe area with young professionals. Housing can be relatively cheap to other areas.

You'll learn that traffic is the main factor in how much time it will take each way and depends where in hills. Late at night no traffic, ur looking 20 -30 mins, all other times 45 - hour plus. Traffic is pretty brutal but don't let these guys fool you its 100% worth it to live somewhere decent in LA. The people saying glendale, pasadena, LOLOL Norwolk, Diamond Bar??? don't have you're interests in mind. All the beach cities are cool too, I just prefer going out in hollywood and occassionally SM.

There are many places spread throughout LA where you can get a decent deal, have good nightlife close and be 'relatively' close to the commerce. Downtown LA (loft arts district, various residential buildings sprinkled throughout the area, etc.), silverlake, echo park and los feliz area are all options. Pasadena, south pasadena, hermon and mount washington are also good choices. Mid city and the miracle mile/the grove are nice options a little west of downtown.
Traffic is a bitch in LA, but if you live here you learn to adjust. If you live in any of these areas and head to commerce between 11 am and 2 pm, you should be there in 30 minutes (grove/miracle mile being the farthest) or less. Likewise, if you leave after 7:00 pm the drive length will be similar. Obviously if you are following a 9 to 5 going to 'work' it will be a headache.

I just moved out here to LA from Las Vegas after spending 3 years grinding 2/5+ and LA is sooo much better. Bottom line--Vegas is only a short drive so getting away for a weekend or a tournament series is easy and you will most likely be a lot happier living in LA.

Quick comparison from my experience:

LA
Positives
Weather and terrain (the ocean-enough said)
Culture
Lifestyle diversity (everything you do doesn't revolve around one strip of road)
Games are generally softer in my limited experience

Negs
High cost of living
Caps on most non high stakes games are downright stupid
Rake is higher
Traffic is crazy unlike Vegas where everything is only 20 minutes max away

Vegas
Positives
Drunk tourists
Tourists
Drunk tourists
More tourists
Low rake
Easy to travel/game select between casinos

Negs
Everything else
You are in the middle of the desert

Vegas is great for a short time but after 3 years I had enough.

Its not bad, before I moved out here to Venice I stayed off of Flower right in the middle of the financial district and enjoyed it. People complain about all of the homeless but I had just moved from Vegas where half the town is homeless, so I didn't mind. Its like any other downtown area, its fun to be in the middle of it all.

Would it be stupid to live in Commerce, CA? Are rentals cheap there? People talk about how bad it is, but I saw some places that didn't look so bad (albeit intermixed with neighborhoods that didn't look great) that I could live in if the rental prices were ridiculously cheap compared to other places.
