Live 5/10 NL full ring game, V in Hand is a Rec player sitting directly next if my left - seems like a nice guy, we've been chatting for 3-4 hrs, I had won several small/med size pots w/o showing my hand -- whenever I did show , I had good value hands.

V 3000
Hero 2500

Folded to me in c/o , I raise 30 with 10d 8d

V is on Button, calls. SB calls.

Flop: J 9 5 rainbow

I bet 60, only button calls.

Turn: 6 . I bet 140, button calls very quickly.

River: 3 ( no flush ). [Pot: ~$500.]

Hero should bluff $350 or give up?

If you're gonna bluff bet less.he's never folding a jack probably not a 9,so bet maybe 200 so he folds his draws

sucks because theres lots of obvious straight draws that missed and our cards arent good for blocking him having a straight draw that would fold to a bet. Did the turn bring a flush draw? Id def be firing the river more often if there was a FD on the turn, since that will add some weak pairs plus fd that missed the river that could fold. his range could be pretty capped depending on if hes the type of rec player to "protect his hand" when he has a really strong one. Got any info on that?

In general i think we got quite a bit of bluffs here. Id prolly bet big if i was going to try and bluff, maybe even 1.5x-2x pot

Yah I'm opposite to Borg, if I'm gonna bluff I'd bet harder for sure. We need a bet that will get him off Jx imo.

I'd bet between 450-600.

The only hand we're getting to fold with ~200ish bet is 76

His range looks capped. Go for an overbet

good responses guys....most of the time I've bluffed, I've always thought my sizing was too small

I bet $350, V tanked for 3 mins, finally called with AJ and said he would have folded if bet was bigger and I believe that's true...hard for someone to call a large bet with a capped range.

Just make sure you balance that by being able to merge a somewhat linear value range with your overbets. For example, against a capped range you dont need to overbet only bluffs and sets, you can add in x% of overpairs as well.

But yeah, even for AJ he's only beating a pure bluff OTR, and I'm assuming QT and T8 are a large portion of the only real air you can have after arriving on this river after raising pre and betting two streets.

76s makes a better bluff imo.
You dont block his folding range
You block the nuts

That said depending on how much value you bet here, you will need some more bluffs if you want balance.

huh?

Having one blocker to the nuts is hardly relevant. We've already established his range is capped, and V never puts us on the nuts anyway.

Thats like saying better to bluff 6x on QQ6 because youre blocking 66
