This Is Getting Really Interesting ...

OK ladies, I have looked at the end of Day 5 chip counts. This is getting really interesting ...

It's down to 98 players remaining with five of the 98 being women! Three of the women are in the top 20 with respectable chip counts - where "respectable" is defined as in excess of three million chips. Of the five, Gaelle Baumann is tops in eighth place with 3,980,000 chips. Were it not for a bad break inflicted on Gaelle due to a close ruling involving a mucked hand, she could have been in second or third place.

The chip leader is Kyle Keranen with 6,935,000 chips. In second place is Robert Salaburu with 6,195,000 chips. (I assume both of these guys are good internet players.) The five remaining ladies line up as follows.

17 Elisabeth Hille 3,390,000
46 Marcia Topp 1,700,000
59 Vanessa Selbst 1,350,000

I'm not enough of a mathematician/statistician to accurately estimate probabilities, but common sense would suggest there is at least a one-in-twenty chance (i.e. five percent) that one of these ladies will make the final table. With just a pinch of good luck and good cards, it's not inconceivable that two of the five could wind up on the final table. That would be historic!

Regardless of what happens later today in Level 6, nobody can say that women can't play poker. Every lady that played in this year's Main Event deserves a round of applause from us guys. You all did great!

Bleh, the universe does not want a woman to make the final table. If it weren't for the controversial KK hand that Koroknai after he shoved and didn't have to pay up, Gaelle would most likely have one of the bigger stacks at the final table now.

Great showing from both ladies, but obv a bummer that neither FT'ed.

Sucks. Congrats to both Gaelle & Elisabeth, and credit to the nine guys, but man, this sucks. Had they both made it, would've been worldwide frontpage news, and on the frontburner until October.

So am I the only one still reeling from the TD's decision with the KK hand? I just keep thinking what would've been. They both did excellent regardless so congrats to them but man.... Smh

Met and re-met so many amazing people once again this summer...def bummed that it's over and everyone is leaving Vegas. Sometimes I get sad when people say things like they hate Vegas and can't wait to leave, but then I remember I used to feel the exact same way before I moved here!

Anyway, glad so many people I know did well and had a productive summer...glgl to gregy and Jeremy in October at the final table! Both great guys and amazing players!

It was great to see you again! I am one of the ones who loves Vegas, can't wait to get there and hates to leave. The only part about leaving that is good is getting back to my husband and dogs.

This trip to Vegas was amazing, meeting so many of you and reconnecting with old friends was so great. Definitely suffered some post-Vegas blues, overeating spells, etc. Finally starting to feel human again....
