Re: Which woman best represents the poker world and which one is the worst representitive?

My top three would be Maria Ho, Kara Scott, and Jen Harman.
Maria Ho gets great results in the modern era, has a good personality, and has some exposure due to Amazing Race.
Kara Scott did a great job on the WSOP broadcasts, especially dealing with people who just busted the biggest event of the year, sometimes in terrible fasion.
Jen Harman has been a cosistent fixture in the Big Game for some time, although probably not as much over the last couple years. She was chosen by some of the greatest players ever to go heads-up with Andy Beal in some of the biggest games ever played (with thier money!).

All three are also heavily involved in good charity work as well, which is a big +.

The only reason i didnt include Selbst, who I actually enjoy watching play more, is because of some of the rants that have been televised. A lot of casual fans are really turned off by that. I like her out loud analysis and her explanation of plays after the hand, but casual fans see it as BS she uses to try to justify her play (I disagree obv).

Annie Duke is not nearly as bad as some indicate. She is awesome with all the charitable stuff and seems to be doing a decent job with Epic. She has a ton of mainstream exposure with Apprentice and winning the NBC heads up championship. Her dark clouds are obv the UB connection, her brother, and her overall demeanor on many telecasts. Often times she just looks pissed off to be at a poker table, which happens to everyone, but there is something about the way she shows it.

Other legit contenders:
Linda Johnson, Jen Tilly, Liv Boree, Vanessa Rousso, and Im sure i am missing a few.

Not interested in naming a bottom three.

Re: Which woman best represents the poker world and which one is the worst representitive?

I probably respect Jennifer Harman's career the most, she probably can't beat a lot of the younger players now, but she has a longer career and already successful (much like daniel negreanu). Vanessa rousso is a close second, she wasn't too good when she started out playing, especially whens he played Huck Seed in Heads up championship. but i think she has come a long way and always carries a positive attitude (also she's a goDaddy girl)

some of the new girls i think COULD carry the torch in the future are Annette Oberstad, and also Melanie Weisner (probably not as well known but she's a great player AND she's hot lol)

Bad woman players: Tilly, Duke. I personally dont like Selbts, i believe she's a great player but i've only seen her in Pokerstar's Big game and her personality annoys me somewhat, but from her results im sure she's a great player.

Re: Which woman best represents the poker world and which one is the worst representitive?

Within the poker world, it's Vanessa Selbst ainec. She's a great player and most people really respect her game. And she's active in the poker community (6k posts ftw). Sometimes I wish she wouldn't yell at people on TV broadcasts, but then I watch her do it and lol accordingly.

For the general public, it's got to be Annie Duke and Vanessa Rousso. As far as I know, they're the two most prominent female players in the public eye. Duke on The Apprentice and Rousso on GoDaddy.com. I think it sucks that it has to be Annie Duke - given her sketchy poker affiliations w/ AP/UB and Lederer - but she's definitely trying to bring poker into the spotlight, even if it is just for personal gain.

Vicky Coren does a fine job here in the UK. The fact that she writes a columns for The Observer, a mainstream publication, probably won't hurt.

Vanessa Selbst I think is by far my favorite. Followed by Annette Obrestad and Maria Ho.

Kara Scott ainec. Universally liked by those who know a lot and those who know a little about poker. Cool chick as well, met her in Dublin, very down to earth.

I have always loved Jennifer Harman....but dang the whole FT disaster puts a cloud over so many of the pros associated with them.

Sorry buddy, you cant come in here and talk bad about the crazy lady. They wont stand for it. You know how durrr has fanboys, Vanessa's are even loonier.
I personally dont see how anyone could ever vote for her to be a representative for women poker players. She is the epitome of every bad stereotype about women players. She is highly emotional, berates other players(ESP WOMEN!) and is a sore winner and loser.
I play at Foxwoods among lots of people that have played with her often and I dont know anyone that has a kind word to say about her

My vote, Kara Scott.
I think that you can guess my vote for worst

I'm not a fan girl by any means and I don't know her but did you find your rant against her necessary? I'm curious to know if she has done something to you personally. I thought we were going for a more positive tone in this thread.

Not to me personally but to my friends who were doing a favor for her. But that is not even the point. Others gave their reasoning for voting for/against someone and I gave mine. Not a rant just an explanation.

I take the word 'loonier' as an endearment in this case. I am a fan and I admire her and her ability. I also cannot think of one friend I have who is a Top100 in the world player (using the GPI) who does not like her or her play.

The only way a lot of people can explain her play/moves is by saying she is bad. But what is really happening is they just don't think about poker at the level she does and therefore cannot understand what she is doing. Not saying that I understand everything she does all the time. Just pointing this out.

And I don't think that her being emotional about poker makes her a bad role model or anything. What she does and how she reacts is no different from other top male professionals who are considered the industry favorites.

Re: Which woman best represents the poker world and which one is the worst representitive?

I personally dont think Selbst is that great of a representative for the poker world, thats not to say she isnt a great player because she is but if a guy had the same attitude that she has had in some of her televised showings people would be complaining about how he was a tool and how he was bad for poker. As far as who I think is the best female representative I would probably have to say Maria Ho for the reason being she gets decent results in todays game and when she is on tv she is very calm and collected which is what i think Selbst lacks. I could also make an argument for JH but with all the full tilt stuff its hard for me to put her in the conversation. As far as who the worst reps are I would have to say Annie Duke or Tiffany Michelle.

Well said. This sums up my feelings to the tee. There is a subtle table vibe that she is out to prove that women can hack it. Welll hold on , we already know that some women can play, that was never an issue so leave your emotions at the door imo.

Oh, I don't get this at all.
I mean does she really have to prove anything to anyone at this point?

Not at all. That's part of my point. We already know she has a lot of talent and is well established. Which is why the aggression and emotion is that much more puzzling.

Perfectly said.

I wish that I could find a youtube vidoe of that WPT women's event where she was so mean and nasty to the women at that table. She made a huge ass of herself
