not the most mature, but very satisfying, esp after all the s+++ i've taken playing live.
A little late to the party, but it hasn't been said yet.

By saying "you just got beat by a girl" you're implying that women aren't, nor can they be, as good as men when it comes to poker. That's pretty demeaning to the rest of your sex, don't ya think?

Ha, good question. I've gotten a lot of "nice hand, sir" as of late, tbh I'm real amused by that one. Last month I got "I can tell you're one of us antisocial poker nerds trapped in a girl's body." Thought that was pretty funny as well. Other than that, I hate any of the standard comments girls get. You've all heard them. I will say, the one thing I hate more than ANY of them is "what are you listening to" instantly my head explodes, they're on for a reason. Generally, my answer is "nothing, I just have the noise cancellation on so I don't have to hear anything." Fortunately, the conversation usually ends there. I'd say I'm a nice girl, if a table conversation is interesting, I join in sometimes. But the last thing I want is to meet a guy at a table, just no.

so I just thought I'd share something that occurred at the table yesterday that had me tilting a bit, but in a "sad commentary on the state of gender roles in America" kind of way.

There is a 70-year old lady that plays at my casino who is a terribad poker player, but very nice. She is one of those women who have been taken care of or taken advantage of all her life. You know, the type who attracts abusers because she is codependent and it's too ingrained in her that she isn't allowed to be strong or stand up for herself. She is the type who is actually intelligent, but constantly plays dumb so men will rush to her rescue.

Anyway, she's at the table doing her "i'm a dumb woman" routine and going on and on about how she's confused by her new DVD player and she doesn't know how to hook it up to her directv box and TV. "But it has this in and out things and i don't know which to put where", etc.

So I speak up and tell her "the wire from the directv box goes into the "in" jacks, and the wire to the TV goes in the "out" jacks. She pretends to not understand and keeps asking, over and over. I keep repeating it, over and over. She's asking the table. I'm answering.

Finally, one of the old man coffees at the table says, "why don't you ask Chuck (another OMC sitting in the 8 seat), he's an engineer!"

Lady immediately turns to Chuck, asks him the same question, then says "oh, maybe you can draw me a picture" and hands him a notepad out of her purse. Chuck proceeds to draw her a diagram of the exact same thing I had said over and over.

Meanwhile, i'm sitting there tilting, having a running convo with myself. The dealer is cracking up. "I'm an engineer, you know. I have TWO engineering degrees. One's in electrical engineering! I can tell you how the signal goes from the box to your TV. Is it because I'm a girl? You think I can't be right? I can't possibly know how to hook up a DVD player? I set up our entire sound system in my house. I fixed our speakers. Is it? because I'm a girl? Helloooo?"

No one heard me but the dealer.

*sigh*

Sounds like she just wanted to meet a "Chuck" and you were getting in the way.

This thread is awesome
Seen many guys say rude comments to attractive women and its pretty annoying but I usually stick up for the girl if they seem shy.

Great thread! I don't have much to add from my personal experiences as its been so long since I played live I can't remember much! & chat is turned off online + info tab up so I don't see any funny comments that might get made.

No men are aggressive and if we can bluff someone out of the pot we will men woman don't matter.
I love being underestimated being a woman playing poker. Reading posts like this make me feel warm inside and remind me how much of an advantage we can have over men. Yay boobs

Oh my, how I wish that were true I drink like a fish and smoke like a train, pretty bad at keeping in touch with people outside of social media, and haven't had a serious boyfriend in years. Just another poker degenerate in a woman's body! I don't know any other female grinders in real life (afaik I'm one of the only chick grinders in NZ(if there are any of you out there lets be friends!!! Please??)). Trying pretty hard this time around to live a more balanced life but between poker, hand review and uni my spare time is normally spent drinking wine, grinding TV or sleeping

Poker players are just notorious *******s on the whole, especially at a certain level of play, where your lact of tact is irrelevant to getting in a game, and everyone is in full embrace of the 'hustle'. I forgot what it was like being called the 'n word' every day, until I took a trip to Montreal, and played online again. When I used a female avatar, it would mostly be the epithets that the ladies are used to, and only sometimes the n word. This just all has way less to do with ones sex than it does with the ego and insecurities/immaturity of a poker playing demographic. You guys get stuck with the creeps tho; that's for sure.

Sorry if this is super redundant. I'm grunching posts from 2 years back. Dumb chat is always entertaining regardless.
