I didn't see a 2013 thread anywhere, I hope it isn't out of place to start one.

My 2013 dream is to play some WSOP events again.

I'm really hoping that 2013 will be my breakthrough year, 2012 was a good year with my first 5 figure net earnings so I'm really hoping to make an actual "living" playing poker this year.

My dream for this year is to finally go to the WSOP and play the main event.

7. Work on improving my mental game

8. Start Yoga, look what it did for Greg Merson :-)

9. Stop punting stacks

Cross posting this from mttc where I originally posted it a few days ago...

I've never really had a year in online poker where I was able to set goals.
When I got online full time Jan. 2010, I was just learning the online game and trying not to fail miserably. Then just as I got going, BF happened and thus re-ignited my live poker career. All throughout this I was just intent on getting better and making money, never had any real goals other than that.

Now that I am at a point in my life where I left so many things behind in order to live in Mexico to grind online, it probably makes sense to have some documentable goals.

2013 goals:

1. My avg. buyin now is about $50. Pre-BF it was $14. I'd like for my 2013 graph to be as similar as possible to my pre-BF results.

2. Finish in the Top 100 of the annual Stars TLB.

3. Make SN before summer.

4. DO NOT adopt any more animals from the streets of Mexico.

5. Win the ladies $55 Sunday at least once.

6. And lastly, I hope that by this time next year, I am still as happy and confident as I am today about the direction of my game, the feeling of improvement and understanding I continually have and the absolute belief in my ability to crush, since feeling like this will mean that I had a good 2013 and will make this post for my 2014 goals all the more simple.

gl everyone, I hope we all achieve our goals and I hope all the good guys and girls get all the money.

Nice goals, ladies!

Here are mine (both poker and life):

1. Shoot my short film by January 31st

2. Publish my novel by end of year

3. Be rolled for 2/5 games during WSOP

4. Play at least a couple of satellites at the WSOP

5. Play 5/5 $300-500 in the fall here in LA

6. Play at least 4 sessions a week

7. Fix my main game leaks

7. Try to play as many tourneys as I can

ditto to hoping that we all achieve our goals

Here are mine:

1) Study at least 10 hours a week, with a particular focus on deeper stacked play. (Want to up my cash game, and also think it will help me get more chips in early levels of MTTs)

2) After taking occassional shots at 2/5 live throughout the early part of the year, make it my regular game by the end of the 2013.

3) Finally win the quarterly regional tournament in my local pub league... Everyone in the league are really good friends, so I'd love to have a few months of bragging rights over those fools!

4) Bring more structure to my life. Stick to a more normal sleep schedule, workout routine, diet, and grinding schedule. If I put the grinding time into my calendar, I think I can put in more volume and still have a life off the table.

5) Go back to the series, but this time I'll spend a few more days there AND I'll actually make it to the TWSS meet up instead of getting there 1 1/2 hours late because of crazy traffic coming from Henderson and a ridiculous line at the Wicked Spoon!

Wow Katie, top 100 on the TLB? That is a serious grind! You go girl!!

Let's see... I'll set some goals this year, why not.

In general, things have been going well with my game the last few months, so I hope to continue that, make some $$, pay off my debts within the next 3 months, and get some savings going. But that is so boring.

So, specifics:

1) Start of the year by shipping one of the PCA side events (and have fun while I am there)
2) $500k in online cashes this year with a min 20% roi
3) FT mulitple WSOP events and ship a bracelet (but don't spend more than 3 weeks total in Vegas)
4) Win another SCOOP
5) Finally win a WCOOP
6) Finally win the women's sunday (the bane of my existence! lol)
7) ship multiple $10k+ online scores, including at least one in NLHE
8) oh, and ship one of the WCOOP or SCOOP leaderboards (Down with Shaun Deeb!!)

Great thread! Copy + pasted from my blog:

Collin and I have a New Year’s tradition of sitting down at a restaurant to recap on how meeting our goals last year went and look at what we hope to accomplish in the year to come. I went a bit crazy with my list, to the point that Collin joked it was too bad we weren’t doing this in school because my extensive list would have made me the teacher’s pet!

Leading up to this year’s list, I did some research on accomplishing goals. It seems the most effective way to go about it is to take a broader goal and break it down into smaller, measurable steps. In terms of poker, this means not listing goals that are actually dreams where luck comes more into play—such as winning a WSOP event or getting sponsored. While these are two dreams I obviously very much hope to happen one day, I think focusing on setting myself up to get there is the real goal that I can control.

2013 will be the first year of my life where I spend the extreme majority of my time in a foreign country. In a few weeks, instead of spending around half my time in Mexico, I’ll be living there full-time. The decision is very bittersweet (and really the subject for an entire post by itself) but it suffices to say that most of poker goals wouldn’t be possible without taking this step.

So, over a plate of charcuterie in an empty French bistro, I disclosed my 2013 poker goals to Collin:

-Play over 15,000 tournaments (MTTs and MTTSNGs) with an ROI of at least 30%

This is a pretty achievable number of games, and I if I were going to be in Mexico for the entire year, I would likely have made it a goal of 20,000. In trying to be realistic though, I kept in mind that I have a cross-country move with 3 pets to deal with during the first couple months, that I’ll be in Vegas for at least some of the WSOP, and that I hope to go on a vacation at some point.

If I play just 450 games a week 34 weeks of the year, then I’ll hit that number of games (playing a bit over 40 hours per week). The ROI is something I can’t totally control, but it will be helped by:

-Having a weekly study session, and looking at my games with Collin at least twice a month

This is something that I already do, and articulating my thought process to others in my monthly DragTheBar and PokerStrategy videos also helps me to think as lucidly as possible about poker. When Collin and I study together, we’ll often debate hands that result in me thinking more creatively in the future.

-Play at least 5 WSOP tournaments and the Main

In 2012, I played a jam-packed summer of WSOP and Venetian Deep Stack events. Considering that I’ll be staying in a hotel and have way more expenses than when I lived in Vegas, playing almost every NLHE WSOP is something I’ll have to forgo. It’s unfortunate, but also the tables online will likely be softer!

-Leaderboards

Though these are also something I have less control over, I view them as further motivation to study and always seek to improve my poker. I’d like to be on the PokerStars yearly table leaderboard, and win SharkScope’s 4-6 tables total profit leaderboard (since I have gotten so into grinding 45-mans). I’d also like to win the PokerStars women leaderboard (if they decide to have it this year), and move up on the Women’s GPI list into the top ten, (though without grinding a lot of live tournaments this is a rather lofty goal).

-Poker Writing

In the three years that I’ve maintained a poker blog I’ve found that blogging about once a month strikes a good balance for me (and hopefully for those of you kind enough to read my blog). Another goal is to have at least one article a month published, whether for Card Player, PokerStars, or TwoPlusTwo.

-Maintain Balance in Mexico

The last time I was in Mexico, I played about 75 hours a week, which was a lot considering that I work on a plateful of other things every week too. I want to keep in mind while I’m there that while taking an afternoon to go to the beach with Collin, or an evening off to learn to cook Mole is not something that will immediately make me a better poker player, it will be +EV for the meta-game that is my life!

While I have many long-term dreams in poker, I hope that the best way to actually see them come true is focusing on things I know I can do. I have some ideas about small ways to make the poker community a nicer place in the coming year. I also have many non-poker goals for 2013, including writing a YA book, which, lucky for me, starts with “research”: rereading Harry Potter.

GL to everyone in 2013!

I'm also writing a YA book. Maybe we can exchange pages sometime in the near future. Good luck in 2013.

Hello girls!

Great resolutions! Very inspiring to aspiring players like me.
Here are mine:

1. Play at least 2 WPT regional events. I am skipping Vegas this year. Even though I cashed in a couple of deepstack my overall performance was regular. I decided to play smaller buy in events so I can play more tournaments.

2. Like Diamondixie, my main goal is to study at least 8hrs a week. It may seem like little time, but I work 50+ hrs a week and anything higher than that is impossible for me at the time. Those 8 hours include messing around with Pokerstove for 30 min at least 4 times a week.

3. LOSE WEIGHT!!!!! That way if I make any WPT FT I can look my best.

This year my husband finishes college after many many years....phew. That way I will be back to work Monday to Friday, no more 50+ hrs of work for me. I want to cry!!!!!

Hope you girls have a great 2013 and I look forward to share my poker experiences with you.

Adios!!!!

2013 will be amazing.
And as they say: If you dream, dream big! So here are my plans/hopes/wishlist for this year:

1. Read one book a week. One each month needs to be poker related (and post the review on my blog (link removed)

2. Consistently write on said blog and make sure my cowriters have enough topics to write about.

2. Go to Las Vegas for the WSOP (and have a bankroll to support participating in some events).

3. Be able to support myself from poker and poker-related activities (workshops, writing, ...)

4. Play 4-6 hours daily and do at least 1h of hand history review for my coach.

5. Publish my second book on minimalism before summer.

6. Participate in at least 1 life tournament per month (and be able to pay for the travel expenses...)

7. Finish the half marathon in February under 2h and finish the Berlin marathon in September.

It won't be boring, that's for sure
Have a great 2013 everyone!

Yea it is, but in my first 4 months back online on Stars, I earned half of the number of points needed to be #100 on the annual TLB.
They take your top 100 finishes on the year and then award points based on that. So as long as I continue to play good value tournaments with my normal volume and play well, I should be able to do it.

awesome! I was thrilled to make the top 1000 for the month last month for the first time since WCOOP 2009 lol. Of course, I haven't been playing near enough volume since I only really added NLHE to my schedule seriously in the last few months. It's certainly not easy. I'm rooting for you!

1. Lose weight.

2. Play the two sports I love, softball and poker!

3. Cash in a major tourney. Played in lots never cashed. Cash games are my forte.

4. Finally forgive someone for all the stupid things they chose to do that affected me.

5. Love unabashedly.

6. See my parents more.

7. Return to poker for a living. Stopped last year because my nieces moved in with me, ready to go at it again!

A little late but:

1. Live in at least 4 places (of course where poker is available). The early 20-somethings are for exploring, right?

2. Stop taking super high variance spots live for multiple buyins or when I'm deep in a tournament, even if they are mildly +EV to avoid the stress

3. Stop buying a bunch of new **** that I have to either dump or put in expensive storage

4. When I go to the gym, actually work out instead of wander around

5. Become friendlier with some of the regs I see a lot at casinos when I'm a reg instead of being the loser who goes in to miserably grind and never says a word

6. Trust my instinct rather than try to talk myself out of the right decision with faulty logic

7. Stop blowing people off slash ignoring them
