The online sites, especially if legal US poker happens could be key. Satellite ladies only tourneys all year could get a major increase in female players at main event. The satellites could of course have fraud issues, with others playing on the ladies accts in the satellites but not much can be done about that.

The men/women ratio in the poker room will always be wide. The numbers will NEVER even out.
Women aged 18-24 are TYPICALLY interested in dating/partying.
Women aged 25-35 are TYPICALLY involved/married and entering motherhood.
Women aged 36-45 are TYPICALLY raising children/WORKING.

Although the world has evolved greatly since the June Cleaver days, women are generally the "care-takers" of the home. Combined with the above, AND the lack of general interest in gambling, poker will always be considered a gentlemen's game...TYPICALLY.
