The biggest thing for me is limiting Thanksgiving to a day, not letting it longer for a week, month, etc. Enjoy the actual day but then move on - don't let it ruin the next several days. Send ppl home with leftovers, give it away to coworkers/homeless/whomever. It might be tough to keep up all of your workouts around this time of year but it's a lot easier if you limit the damage imo

Just got back from visiting Collin's Dad in Utah; was a great and very active trip. One day we hiked over 10 miles, and the views were gorgeous.

Brag alert: We also did an unexpected hike after finding a random trail on the way back from lunch. I was wearing 3" wedges, but still did the hike which has hand-hold only at points.

Not a brag alert: The part where I fell into the water while trying to cross by walking across a 3" thick log was not cool (when I fell, my ankle got wedged between big rocks and I had to call in my white knight rescue squad).

I love hiking. Would love to tackle something huge like Everest.

i just wanted to share what i made tonight because it's healthy imo and thread needs more pix/healthy food porn.

ok, so i bought ground turkey, one red pepper, one small orange pepper (**** is 'spensive imo), scallions, one onion (white - sweet), and a tomato (i used plum tomatoes because i find them to be less acidic ).

so here's all of this on the pan:

you don't need to use much oil, i put onions in first, then the meat, and when the meat is about 70% cooked i threw the rest of the stuff in. i also used ground garlic pepper, regular pepper, a little bit of garlic powder, and a dash of salt.

i used ground turkey, a little bit of orange pepper, a lot of scallion, the tomato, and a LOT of onion for the stuffing.

then i cut the red peppers in half and cut out the seeds.

i stuffed the other half of the orange pepper that i didn't use.

then i sprinkled some cheese on it.

then i baked it for about 25 minutes.

i like it, imo.

Mmmmm, looks good - I bet that would work really well with some soy meat!

Have any of you tried Crossfit? Had my last tennis match of the season today and it's three months until we start up again, so I want to try and get some strength training into the mix in the meantime. I really don't know what I'm doing though and injured myself the last two times I tried on my own, so I'm thinking some kind of supervised program is in order until I figure things out Gym down the road from me is offering a free class to try it out so I thought it might be worth a shot...

Starting up P90x after the NY - did it for about 3 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas until the holidays finally derailed me, but even without following it strictly it still kept me from gaining my usual holiday weight Can't wait to see how it goes once I really dedicate to it!

:-( I am looking to get into running, but I am nowhere near NW Vegas.

I've always hated going to the gym and have relied on organized sports for exercise during most of my life. That all changed once I moved to LV.

I've *semi* committed to training for a half marathon, but I was never a distance runner (sprints / hurdles in H.S. track). Gotta start slow, but I'm not thrilled at the idea of running by myself or on a treadmill. The BF definitely isn't taking up running, so . . .

(Yes, I know . . . excuses, excuses.)

Okay jumping on the New Years Resolutions fitness boat!

I'm pretty unhappy with myself for getting as far out of shape as I am atm. You'd think black friday would have given me lots of time to work out but in reality it set me back. I no longer bring my little guy to daycare daily so I can grind, therefore I don't have anyone to watch him during the day when i'd usually work out. Also, the extra traveling BF has forced me to do doesn't help. When I travel all the way to LA/Vegas to play live poker, I don't want to take precious time to work out. Lame. However, I recently found a friend who will watch him for a couple hours weekly so I can get back into my fitness groove and I think I will put together a condensed workout while i'm traveling so I don't totally fall off the wagon.

Jenny, lets play raquetball over the WSOP! You'll probably kick my butt cause I don't play much but I love that game and it's such a great workout. Warning: I'm super competetive and there's at least a 10% chance I hit my raquet against a wall at some point

Let's! I got a new racket for Christmas and am loving it! It is the first time I've had a racket with a narrow grip, and it makes a huge difference. Hubby also custom ordered it with a pink grip.

Please don't ever think you need precious time to work out! It's a lifestyle. You won't ever change your habits until you begin to think about it as one. It's not just about going to the gym for an hour a few times a week. You can't think that that's all it is... although if you do do that you're already ahead of the curve.

think of it as simple as possible. it's a numbers game. Take your heart rate at rest. That's your baseline. Any kind of movement you do will increase the heart rate and burn more calories. More calories = more lbs lost.

Do things around your house. Sometimes when I'm watching something on the computer, I'll put my laptop on the ground and plant myself in front of it and work on my glutes by doing this.

If you have stairs where you live, go up and down them and feel your heart rate increase. Breathe heavy, but still breathe!

Go outside and play with your kid. Ride bikes, play basketball, throw a ball around, kick a soccer ball, do jumping jacks, jump rope, hopscotch, or hula hoop.

Also, this is more funny to me than anything, but I'll post it anyways.

I get what you are saying but time is unfortunately a realistic barrier for many people's fitness goals, especially those with children. I trained for and ran a marathon a year after I had my son. I was only able to do that because my family was super supportive and they gave an incredible amount of their own time to watch my son so I could do the necessary training. I never could have done it without that help. While lifestyle changes was certainly part of the equation in achieving that goal they wouldn't have been sufficient on their own. Time away from other responsibilities (and a little bit of craziness?) was the most important variable. My new goal is to do a triathalon. I'll certainly continue the healthy habits i've picked up along the way, but the new ways i've found to get some time to myself is going to help a ton.

There's a ton. Resistance bands are your friend, they are inexpensive, compact and are great for toning. Go online and you will find various exercises for arms using the bands. In regards to your abs do pilates. I've seen it work better than just regular crunches.

sparkpeople.com has great free resources that include a ton of strength training exercises, including some that don't require bands or weights if you don't have any. unfortunately abs are more a function of overall body fat %, so while doing core exercises will help some, you really need the layer of fat covering it to be thin enough that they can show through.
