My best RB is out for today (Foster) and I just read that one of my receivers (Colston) broke his collarbone in the GB game. What fun.

no wonder you're trying to steal Matt Forte...

Haha, can't blame me for trying.

I'm going to have to pick up someone off waivers to fix my receivers, anyway. One already out for 4 weeks and a star RB with a sore hamstring isn't what I was hoping for at the start of the season, but it's all for fun anyway.

Well you won't officially win until tomorrow since I have players in the Pats/Miami game but it looks like you've got this.

0-1 in both FF and in the real league where my damn Browns gave up 10 points in the last 4:30 of the game at home.

Wow RJ, some bad luck you've had so far. 18 pts between 2 players is very doable tho.

I didn't even notice originally that I lost all my kicker points, too - my kicker (Kaeding from SD) hurt himself on the kickoff, so even if I had noticed I couldn't switch him out. If I lose by only a couple points that'll be the difference right there.

My defense pulled through nicely last night, tho. I still would have been better off with Baltimore's defense (7 turnovers vs. Pittsburgh?!), but honestly, who saw that coming?

I'll do some work on waivers this week to shore up where my team is already injured and it'll be fine. Really, I was much more deeply pissed off at my real team (Browns) than to lose in FF. This is for fun, I don't take it personally and have no real problem if I end up in the bottom half of the league.

3-1 and 1 still to be decided for me this week. I've got a 7.44 pt lead with RunDMC going to his McGahee.

Sometimes you're the buzz-saw (me in my main league) sometimes you get buzz-sawed (me in TWSS).

Yeah, I definitely not counting my chickens just yet; it actually should be close when the two players from the Monday night game are added in.

I might just have to watch the game; although I hear that Cossell isn't on the Monday Night broadcast anymore. Where the heck is Madden working these days anyway?

Yeah, it's closer than I thought it was going to be after I watched the first half of the Jets game - their defense came through much better in the second half. Gives me an incentive to watch the game tonight, which is really what's great about FF. No hard feelings either way, tho.

Madden is retired AFAIK. And thank God, I say - he tilted me to no end. Constantly spouting off with the most inane, obvious, ******ed **** combined with continual meaningless cliches. I hated him so much I often refused to watch games he was working.

Madden is the greatest for all the reasons you just mentioned.

Cris Collinsworth, on the other hand, is an idiotic d-bag that needs to STFU.

To each their own I suppose, but Madden literally made me furious. I HATED him as a commentator.

All I really ask from my sports commentators is that they don't annoy the ever loving piss out of me. Is that really too much to ask for? Quit saying stupid **** and just describe the game and throw out some player facts.

Example from the first game tonight of the stuff that makes me want to chuck stuff at the TV. During the Dolphins first drive, they had 1st and goal and Henne took a sack, and one of the commentators on the TV ESPN feed (Gruden, I think) said that this was the "worst thing that could happen".

Really? A sack is worse than a pick six? How about a sack fumble where your starting QB breaks his leg? How about a 20 yard loss on the sack instead of the sustained 7 yard loss?

That type of **** just pisses me off. Saying that Henne made a tactical mistake and should have thrown the ball away is fine (and probably accurate). Calling it the "worst thing that could happen" is pointless (and to me, infuriating) hyperbole.

Edit: Wow, two of the three (so far) TDs for NE have gone to my fantasy players, helping me squeak out a week one win. I honestly thought I was too far behind yesterday to recover. You'll get me next time, Shauna.

Based on the universe of commentators that are on TV I'd say yes, it is too much to ask for.

The thing I love about Madden is that he is SO bad that he's a complete caricature of the bad commentator, which I found more entertaining than annoying.

I agree with everything else you wrote though. Don't even get me started on Joe Morgan...

Yeah, you ran into the buzzsaw this week, no doubt about it.

I got the 3rd best score with zero points from a kicker, so all things considered it was a good week. It helped that I had Wes Welker last night.

Congrats to all our week one winners! And for those less fortunate this week, just remember that even great players have off weeks, so if you have solid players and you know it, just shrug and get ready to demolish someone next week.

Nice comeback on MNF, RJ. Geez, NE had one heck of a night.

I can see I've got a lot more research to do if I'm going to hang in this league. I really don't know any of these guys.

I was thinking about when the last time I seriously followed the NFL; aside from the jokes, it really has been a while. I think maybe around the time Dick Vermeil left the Eagles (yes I was a huge Vince Papale fan), so I actually was serious about Howard Cossell still working the last time I made a point of watching MNF.

Talk about annoying commentators; was there anything worse than his "Captain Kirk" style of speaking and pomposity? Gifford and Dandy Don were a relief to listen to when Howard would take a break.

All part of the short term luck.

I put Howard in the same category as Madden. He's such a caricature of himself that that it doesn't bother me.

After last night, Trent Dilfer goes on the list of commentators that need to shut it.

LOL, I had four waivers waiting to go through last night. Sadly, one was kicked back because SOMEONE requested the same WR as I did, and I'm at the bottom of the waiver priority.

As usual, it's going to be RB that end up as a problem for a lot of people, I think. Just so tricky to get the right ones, and they have to hold up for the year. There's a hell of a lot more serviceable WR than there are RB - I had no problem finding a decent replacement for Colston (broken collarbone), but God forbid Foster is out for a significant amount of time.

I'm sure I just burned most of it in the first week :P

+1 to putting in more than one waiver pick - I foolishly only had one and ofc someone with higher priority got him, so guess I'll have to see what I can scrounge up of the leftovers...

Also, looks like Foster practiced today so hopefully that's a good sign:

If you want him you can have him.

I think Foster is fair to accept in trade for him. I'm probably getting the short end of the deal since Foster is projected to score 0 fantasy pts the rest of the season and Smith is projected to score 464, but if you want him that badly my arm can be twisted.

LOL I think we ALL really wanted/requested Smith...

So there's no way to know who's ahead of you on waivers per player?

25% of the league didn't want/request him.

not until the dust settles.

It's even more "fun" when you use a blind auction system. I bid 65% of my budget on Ryan Grants back up last year in week one, the next highest bid was 16 and the winning bid was 84.

That's funny.

No thanks, I found another serviceable WR to replace my injured guy. WRs is probably the easiest of the big three positions to replace (QB, RB, WR), IMO.

And I don't think there's a way you can see if someone else has requested a player off waivers. All I know is, that if anyone else requests a player other than me, they'll get it. Our waiver priorities are the numbers after our team names in the league standings. Mine is 8, meaning I'm in last place to pick up players off the waiver. Apparently I smoked you all in the draft.
