I like it! I initially just used Aimee to set the league up but changed it to GridIron Maiden

Draft order is set, standard random snaking draft order (i.e. we start at the top of the list, and once the end is reached we go back up the list in reverse order). Draft order is as follows:

1. dead money
2. SGT RJ's Ninjas
3. Pokerella
4. GridIron Maiden
5. Raging Queens
6. OMG ONOZ!!!
7. katie75013
8. J Murderers

Again, happy to answer any questions prior to the draft Good luck everyone!!!

I've never done a draft on there, will it pull up player stats and all as we go or should I have ESPN up and running at the same time so I at least have a fighting chance of picking decent players?

Seems awfully biased against TWSS mods

I like ESPN better, but I assume they have all the pertinent info on Yahoo too.

Just playin about the draft order thing. I honestly couldn't care less. See y'all tomorrow afternevening.

Never used ESPN, maybe we can try it next time Yeah, they'll have stats there, but things happen pretty quickly so you might want to have some players that you like in mind beforehand.

They have the stats and their rankings in the draft lobby. It's pretty much highlight the player (or players) and then select the one you want and hit the big button that says draft.

I've never drafted on either site, I just don't know if Yahoo has player stats/comparisons in their draft area. If they don't I'd pull up some ESPN stuff just so I don't draft my kicker 5 rounds too early.

Billy Cundiff in the first round. Problem solved.

That being said, I'd go to the draft area and make sure that your browser works. There's a link in the Draft Countdown box on the right that says, "Test your system to see if it is draft compatible". Then if you have time, jump into a mock draft for a couple of minutes to see what it's like.

+1 Seeing how the draft software works beforehand makes it a lot easier

+1 on testing the system. I did a mock draft since I had no clue what I was doing and it really helped me with the basics of using the system. Now I can at least not take too long when I make picks that folks are going to laugh at.

Thanks guys, I popped into a mock draft just to see, it's pretty self-explanatory though, I think.

Should be fun.

Gotta say though, the whole system is now geared toward making it relatively easier for FF noobs to compete. My first FF draft (and only one to date, but even though I was a FF noob I was an avid football fan, which made it easier), there were at least a couple of people (including the guy that picked first!) who had no freakin' clue what they were doing, and as a result had horrible teams and/or consistently forgot to sub their bye players. Now with complete rankings/projections I doubt anyone will end up with a really bad team unless they a) pay zero attention to rankings and pick players by throwing darts at a board or b) get hammered by the injury bug.

First time playing FF, and I won the league for the regular season (my first draft choice with the 2nd overall pick - Payton Manning. The year he set the then record for TDs in a season, and I had one of his receivers too. Made up for the fact that my running backs underperformed. ).

My only advice (if anyone cares) would be not to be too much of a homer and load up on players from your favorite team, and also don't pick many players on teams (or just players overall) that you absolutely loathe. Just because a guy is rated as the next best pick on the board doesn't mean you should take him - those are projections, not guarantees. Nothing worse than being two points down in your fantasy league and being forced to actually root for a team you hate on Monday night. It's bad for your football soul. Which is why there will be no Ravens on my team.

Yeah, I feel like I'm at a disadvantage because I haven't been following the NFL for a long time, so I think that I'm an underdog to folks like you that actually know who some of these players are.

BTW, when did they all start wearing helmets? And why are the goal posts not on the goal line anymore? Do we get extra points for drop kicks instead of field goals?

Shauna:

3) only if this was an arena football fantasy league

2)They were moved to try and reduce the number of field goals kicked during a game, especially at the end of games, to make things safer around the goal line for the players, and make passing around the middle of the field at the goal line more productive.

1) 1896

Disadvantage, yes. At the same disadvantage you would have been a couple of years ago - hell no.

If you just take the best ranked player at the position you want to fill for the first several rounds you can't do that bad. Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to just go look at the ESPN power rankings for the start of the year to get an idea of what teams are good vs. which ones are bad. If you need a running back, and the next two ranked RBs are two players you know nothing about, it's probably not a bad idea to take the RB on the better team. Bad teams are bad for a reason - while you can have a very solid fantasy performer on a bad/mediocre team (Peyton Hillis of the Browns last year would be an example), for the most part it's more difficult for even great players to put up the same numbers they would if they had a better O-line/QB/whatever.

That said, there's decent odds I'm the only person who ends up with two or more Cleveland Browns on my fantasy team, thus violating my own "don't be a homer" rule. I really do think they'll be a solid "average" team this year, though, as opposed to sucking hard as they have in the past. Ah the start of the NFL season, where hope springs eternal and everyone has the same record.

It's weird not drafting with a beer or three in front of me...

Good tips, RJ. One I would like to add since I manage to make this mistake myself all the time: watch your bye weeks and make sure that you don't draft too many players with the same week off or you're going to be hurting once that week comes around

I'll have to look at his team, but I guess he had multiple good performers from last night, then.

I had Brees and am pretty happy about how the game turned out even with the Saints losing. 400+ yards and 3 TDs with no picks is

Worried about Arian Foster for this week, tho.

Rodgers played well, Jennings & Graham both were ok & scored TDs. Could be better, could be worse.

Kickers are the hobgoblins of little minds.

Yeah your Saints guys did well last night while my Packer TE slightly underperformed. I need Vick to have a big weekend.

Hopefully that kicker I have from Oakland will be OK, I'd feel better if they still had Blanda. He's so good at those 4th Q comebacks that I think being dead a few years is only a slight handicap.

Shauna.
