Calling all NYers, if you're registered to vote, please vote yes to Prop. 1 on 11/5. This is an off year election so voter turn out will be lower than normal, so every vote will count. Help bring table games to New York.

Thanks for posting. Even if you are not yet registered to vote in NY, there is still time to do so. The PPA is actually sending voter registration info to our local members via email today. Here are the details:

http://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingRegister.html

October 11 – Deadline for Registering to Vote by Mail or In-Person

Mail Registration: Applications to register to vote must be postmarked no later than October 11, 2013, and be received by the board of elections no later than October 16, 2013, to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

In-Person Registration: You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year. However, to be eligible to vote in this November’s General Election, your application must be received no later than October 11, 2013, except if you have been honorably discharged from the military or have become a naturalized citizen since October 11, in which case you may register in person at the board of elections until October 25.

Today is the last day to register to vote in person. Get your friends and family registered. I believe that passing this proposition is the 1st step to getting legalized/regulated online poker in NY.

Big win today for the Casino prop. A judge dismissed a case that a group brought up to challenge the wording of the prop (which included language about more jobs and less taxes for NYers).

Polls have been conducted to show that with its current wording the prop is a huge favorite to win (I'm at work on my phone so I can't find links, but I think it was like 2.5-1 favorite in one poll).

It is also important to mention that this is a STATEWIDE REFERENDUM... meaning every vote does COUNT!!!

Especially in a midterm election where turnout will be low

The September Siena poll was 46-46 for a question about "non-Indian, Las Vegas style casinos" but 55-42 in favor for a question that used the actual wording from the proposition (which is horrendously biased - I can't believe the judge allowed it).

A lot closer than I thought for the exact wording. Either way, The wording clearly helps the chances of this thing passing. Their hasn't been a whole lot of money spent on advertising (on either side) for this prop yet, but I suspect we will see a decent amount of ads when we get closer to election day.

I think the Politicians really want this passed and I'm sure the judge has been briefed.

finally saw a TV ad for this today on Long Island. It went something like "Democrat Tom Suozzi and Rebublican Ed Mangano will both be voting yes in November, not for Nassau County Executive but prop 1"

I saw it today in Brooklyn, as well. It had the same thing, except De Blasio and Lhota were the pols named instead.

NYC will drive this. Midterm election, but NYC Mayoral election means high turnout. Most of the ads will be there, not up the river.

Vote early and vote often!

Yeah, I'm in Albany and I haven't seen any TV ads. I did hear one on the radio and have seen them on the Times Union website.

If this gets passed, what do you guys think the prospects are for online poker in the near future?

it will probably emulate NJ in that the online gaming would be offered through casinos. being that it takes a minimum of 18 months just to build one, i'd say your looking best case scenario is 3 years.

Infinitesimal, for the short term future. The proposition is for land based gambling only.

It certainly opens the door for NY to get online poker someday. Putting in casinos means the state will end up with a real gaming commission rather than the Racing and Wagering Board we have now. That will give them the regulatory competence to manage it.

Just because somebody gets a job does not mean they are competent.
