This thread has been inspirational. Tonight I bought the ingredients for my mom's peanut butter criss-cross cookies. Tomorrow afternoon will be the big bake. Luckily, the weather forecast is for the high 70's so I can survive a couple hours with the oven on. My plan is to send most of the cookies to my brother for his birthday. \o/

zomg my workplace is holding a bake sale in 2 weeks to support the SPCA so now I have an excuse to try something out these things are usually overloaded with cookies and brownies so if anyone has unique suggestions pls let me know! (I wonder if they'd let me do doggie treats, seems appropriate for the cause, no?)

Could be a big seller! Especially with a doggie bone cookie cutter!

Pizza tonight!

Here is my recipe for homemade pizza crust.

Ingredients:

1 cup milk
1 Tlb. yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 tsp. salt
2 Tlbs. sugar
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 egg
~3 1/2 cups of flour
up to 2 Tlbs. grated parmesan cheese (optional).

Directions:

Scald the milk; remove from heat when finished. In a small bowl, combine yeast and warm water (ensure the water is not too hot) with a pinch of sugar; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, add the salt, sugar, oil and milk. Stir until combined. Add two cups of flour; mix well until smooth. Add egg and yeast mixture and mix well. Add ~ one and a half cups of flour and, if desired, parmesan cheese. Place in desired pizza pan and roll/stretch out before putting your pizza toppings on top. Bake at 425-450 for 18-20 minutes.

And that's your pizza dough.

I use wheat flour for the second flour addition. The flour isn't always exact - as anyone who bakes knows, once the dough is not too sticky to work with, you've added enough flour, so on the second edition add 1.25 to 1.5 cups and see where you're at. You can use all white flour as well; I presume you could also use all wheat flour but I don't know the measurements for that one.

I use a round deep dish pizza pan, but baking sheets work fine as well.

Enjoy!

This thread is slightly tilting.
You all must have super human powers or something.
I just had to throw away an entire pot of pasta from over cooking it...again.
All I was trying to do was make pasta with tomato sauce.
If I come into this thread disgruntled and negative from time to time, it's just because I'm jealous of your domestic capabilities

Look at the bright side.

At least you can boil water. I know many that can't even accomplish that.

Yeah, one of the wives of one of the guys I worked with in the Army used to use a timer to boil water.

We all have our limitations. I'm just hoping whatever I bake for the bake sale turns out reasonably edible

I hosted Thanksgiving at my house one year for extended family and friends and turned my pool table into a dining table. I was quite proud of my efforts. This is the closest I get to cooking.

See, now that I could not do. I have zero decorating abilities. I only wear white socks so that everything will match. Whatever gene allows you to make things look fabulous, I do not have it.

ok, ok.
In the spirit of "baking"
I once decided that a loaf of bread I purchased at the store needed to be re-baked.
The bread was not the only "baked" participant in this operation.
This is the result:

That would be a negative to both.
I do however play online poker and I am female.
So, put two and two together and you get a burnt loaf of pre-baked bread.

i am so confused.

what is the other "'baked' participant in this operation"?

why does playing online poker and being female make you burn bread?

how do you play online poker from dallas? (i live in dallas too)

why do you mod a feminist section of a major forum if you are not a feminist?
