Pizza tonight!
Here is my recipe for homemade pizza crust.
Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1 Tlb. yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 tsp. salt
2 Tlbs. sugar
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 egg
~3 1/2 cups of flour
up to 2 Tlbs. grated parmesan cheese (optional).
Directions:
Scald the milk; remove from heat when finished. In a small bowl, combine yeast and warm water (ensure the water is not too hot) with a pinch of sugar; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, add the salt, sugar, oil and milk. Stir until combined. Add two cups of flour; mix well until smooth. Add egg and yeast mixture and mix well. Add ~ one and a half cups of flour and, if desired, parmesan cheese. Place in desired pizza pan and roll/stretch out before putting your pizza toppings on top. Bake at 425-450 for 18-20 minutes.
And that's your pizza dough.
I use wheat flour for the second flour addition. The flour isn't always exact - as anyone who bakes knows, once the dough is not too sticky to work with, you've added enough flour, so on the second edition add 1.25 to 1.5 cups and see where you're at. You can use all white flour as well; I presume you could also use all wheat flour but I don't know the measurements for that one.
I use a round deep dish pizza pan, but baking sheets work fine as well.
Enjoy!
