Back in NJ for 2 months!! Getting set up on all the new NJ poker sites has proven annoying thus far however, with their inability to verify IP addresses and take deposits using debit cards. I guess I am one of the first problem cases of people opening and having NV and NJ accounts within the same week (you have to physically be in the respective state to play), as UP customer support was confused by my multiple accounts. Hopefully next week, I will receive in the mail the USB wifi signal booster from 888 Poker (UP offered to reimburse me for them, 888 sent them automatically for free) and they as well as UP will believe that I am in NJ and allow me to play poker!

In any case, we left Mexico on Tuesday, spent a few days in Vegas and flew to NJ Friday. Put in a cash session already at Harrah's in AC, and am vowing to get lots of studying done while we are here.

We go back to Mexico Feb 1st and until then will be playing live on the East Coast and spending time with family. Happy Holidays everyone!
Here are some pics from the past few days:

Our flight was delayed from Vegas, so we took the opportunity to introduce Rylee to the Dolly Parton slot machines!

When we landed in Philadelphia, the scenery was quite different from what we left in Mexico:

I'm from Texas and about half my friends are Mexican decent and have family members living there. While, a lot of them used to travel down there to see their extended families most don't anymore. A few of them have had family members kidnapped for ransom. One in particular they think it was someone at the bank that was involved in the kidnapping because the guy was secretive about his wealth. Even the head security guy (30 years of experience in the field - not talking about rent-a-cop stuff) of our company (we're international) put a moratorium on any travel to Mexico.

Having been down to the border for work many times myself. I know of many incidents (having talked to the border patrol & police) of people being murdered for their truck, shot dead at traffic lights, and even burned alive in a barrel on just our side of the border. And not reported by the media in this country.

Therefore, i'm shocked people are saying it is safe. However, i stopped caring/paying attention this past year ... so maybe things have significantly improved?

I'm sure the people living in Rosarito would be shocked to hear of these things as well. Nothing is present like that in our area. Def other places in Mexico to avoid, just like in the US. I have heard of people being shot before in the United States over cars and drug deals as well!!! Imagine that!!

There is no comparison to truck loads of decapitated and mutilated bodies being found on the road in Mexico to drive by shootings in the USA. Every town along the border in Mexico has seen high profile killings including Rosarito.

It's insulting that you'd throw a sarcastic comment like, "Imagine that!!" at me when i'm voicing a legitimate issue.

Are you aware that Mexico is the hands down world leader in kidnappings and extortion? Over 100,000 cases last year. Meanwhile, you're on here posting how much you've won, who you are, where you live, where you've been, and where you're going.

I would recommend anyone reading this not to do the above, especially if you live/travel to Mexico. That isn't just for your sake but your family/friends. My friends relative that i mentioned in the previous post was beaten over and over for months, his life savings eradicated, and most of his family bled dry of their wealth as well. Luckily, they decided not to kill him and eventually let him go after they were convinced that there was no more money to be had.

there are cases however Mexico has 120 million people and you are overexaggerating, all in all I'd rather live in Mexico than in majority of US cities

Sometimes I underexaggerate but I never overexagerrate. :P

But yeah, just like cash games you can use table selection. Mexico has some scary regions but it also has some awesome ones. I doubt thousands of US poker refugees would be living in Rosarito if it had the drug fueled crime wars and lawlessness that define certain parts of the country.

I wish people would stop trying to derail this thread, saying how unsafe Mexico. We get it you don't like Mexico. This is a Poker forum not the I hate Mexico thread.

I thought the same thing, Mexico is an extremely dangerous place and if you are a tourist you will be kidnapped and have your head cut off for sure. When op moved down was right around the time of the falcon lake incident that was really blown up by the media.

Op has been there along with a lot of other poker players and seems to be doing fine. She has been there for a while now I am sure if crime was rampant she wouldn't be there still. Rosarito seems like a great destination for displaced poker players looking to make a move.

It sucks you had to move out of the country, jump through a bunch of hoops and who know what kind of challenges are still to come but what an amazing experience you are getting to have. I think its safe to say I'm jealous! I would love to one day play at some kind of professional level and after seeing threads like this it just encourages me to play better. Im sure you have put a lot of time and hard work into your game so I know you deserve it. Awesome thread, keep up the great work and congratulations on all of your success.

Figured it was time for an update

I have not been in Mexico since December because my boyfriend and I accidentally moved back home over the holidays! We went to see our families in NJ and decided to try out the newly regulated sites in NJ, and so far they have been great. We will go to Mexico for WCOOP after the WSOP however; I could never stay away too long

We leave for Vegas in less than 2 weeks and will be there for the entire summer. I will probably take a trip down to Rosa to see friends and take that much needed mid-wsop break that is so necessary.

I will keep this thread open, for people who have questions about Mexico and living there, but for now, this Jersey-born girl is back home
