Long story short:
I'm feeling young and adventurous, so I'm subletting my NY apartment for the first 3 months of 2013, during which I'll be living out of the suitcase. Making some stops in the US around tournament series times, not ruling a California cash game stop yet, and Mexico doesn't sound like a bad idea either. Sometimes I hate NY.

How much trouble would it be to get a 1 month sublease somewhere in Mexico? And if I move there, how long will it take before I'm back online and allowed to play? I can get a car from my parents' place in AZ and drive down.

God, I wanna play aggro 6-max 100NL and 200NL

you could drive to puerto penasco from az, inspect the property and sign a lease in one afternoon. how long it takes to get back online depends on a few things but it likely wouldn't be more than a handful of days.

i lived in penasco earlier this year and am looking to rent again in 2013 so if you're interested in discussing it more send me a pm.

I love how I still have no plan beyond January (when I'm staying in Vegas and renting out someone's living room in Veer)

My parents are being a little annoying about the safety issue.

When I brought up the Southern California idea, they were annoying because the casinos are in the shadier areas. They think someone's going to follow my car back to my apartment if I cash out big to cause me trouble later.

I threw in the Mexico idea, and now they're thrilled about the old California idea.

So I just need to think of something new that will make Mexico look like a safe haven, and I'm in

The SoCal rooms aren't in the greatest areas of town, but security is usually ok. Been playing here for several years without a problem.

The rake is worse than Vegas, but the games are pretty soft.

Parents are always going to worry, it's their job. Just keep your eyes open and wits about you wherever you decide to go.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Christmas and New Year's was pretty uneventful here in Rosarito. No crazy parties or anything but I did get to do some fun stuff! I played through both holidays and even got trolled on twitter for doing so. One guy told me that my life was pathetic because I was playing poker on Christmas! It was pretty funny.

I finished my session on Christmas-Eve and then my friend and fellow holiday grinder, Octavian_C and I went to the Rosarito Beach Hotel for their holiday dinner which was surprisingly good. Good enough that we went back the following night for Christmas dinner!

I also played on New Year's night, finished that session early though, around 5pm to go and have a wonderful holiday dinner with friends paulgees81, dipthrong and wormnorton; Liz, the gf of wormnorton, is a very talented chef and made short ribs, turkey meatball soup, a pasta caesar salad and red velvet cupcakes!

I plan on taking full advantage of these next few weeks while so many regs are still home for the holidays and don't plan on taking many days off. I have some good poker goals for 2013 that include making a certain amount of money as well as making the annual TLB. I figure I should make SuperNova on Stars in about 5 months with the volume I play, so will be excited for that as well!

Below are some fun pics from the New Year's celebration!

Our lovely meal!

Great thread, I'm from Spain , living at the moment in UK. Uk is great because gambling winings are tax free, but the weather is terrible and cost of life extremely high. I´m thinking on move to another country in summer or at the end of this year, considering Malta, Rosarito or Costa Rica.
One question, how about the taxes for a poker player in Mexico?

I can see moving to Mexico for online poker, but not for B&M poker. I visited a few of the public poker rooms over the holidays, and standard rake was 10% up to 300 pesos (almost $30) at the 20-50 (roughly $2-$5) NL games. At 10-20 ($1-$2) it was a bargain at 200 pesos max rake (per pot.) I am sure hoping the Mexican poker players figure out they are getting ripped off and take a stand to this.

At least the security in the poker rooms made us feel safe.

Probably a silly question , but what's the water situation like there? Do most folks get sick once and then get used to it, or is it processed better now than it was in years past?

I've heard of people sticking to bottled water, but if you're rinsing your veggies in it and stuff you're bound to be ingesting some.

We use bottled water for drinking water and dog water.
But wash veggies and boil water using water from the sink.
I don't believe we have ever gotten sick from the water.
Additionally my roommate made coffee the other day with water from the sink and we drank it and were fine. But not sure if the boiling had anything to do with it.

It's been a while since I have updated this thread...sorry about that! Been playing a lot of poker and having a lot of fun with friends! Our little poker community down here is so special to me and I would not trade the past 10 months of my life down here with them for anything! I have made some of the best friends I will ever have in my life during this time and am truly grateful for the experiences.

Here are some of my fav pics from the last few months...I am headed to Vegas for the summer on Monday so it will be a while before any more Mexico updates/pics...but vammooooooooooo WSOP!!!!!
