In real life, it has come to the point that I really respond when somebody in a crowd calls out "bella". 15 years of taking on a fake persona will do that to you . It bugged the hell out of me in Twilight, though heh.
I still don't know how much I will participate in the twss community. I'm more of a strategy gal myself, but if you are ever interested in LHE, come over to the micros. We have a great community and are very welcoming of any new people posting strat.

Hey Bella,
I've been pseduo in a non creepy fashion reading your blog and more on Deuces ( Im hustleher0 on dc) . Clever gal you are, I hope to one day meet you though I don't flex around in the LHE world. I personally play NLH (MTT), and am getting into heads-up and 6-Max cash.
I was wondering if I could get your input, on the question: On online forums, should you correct or not correct guys when they assume your a man?
I guess because of my straight up style, almost always I get 'yo bro' or 'dude'
I was wondering, if you think there is an advantage to them treating you like one of the dudes, or is the social justice and right thing to do correct them because long term it reduces hetronormativity? I find when I reveal I'm a girl they kinda treat me a bit softer.
great to get your thoughts.
cheers

Re: The Lady Across the Table-Introduction Thread
Hey Ladies,
Awesome to have this thread!
A little about me- I'm 26 from Toronto, I work in the university sector (I'm a practitioner) , and have been dilletenting it up with poker since 2008 (e.g. doing the fishy thing of playing like once a month and not reading or self-impoving) , but sorta started taking poker a little more seriously 6 months ago aka I read a book and started applying a work ethic and plan out my time towards poker. To say the least I don't like to lose, I love competition and would love to be bi-winning at life.
I've become rather enamoured with poker, and would love to get good enough to be a full time grinder- totally my dream!
I recently came 4th ( My online name on stars is HustleHer0, should have taken it down, made a bad shove) http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/womens...22-081724.html On the stars women's sunday and I'm definitely on a mission to take it down, within the year.
I've heard from a few of my friends who are baller successful full time grinders, that the best way to be on the 'come up' is to surround yourself with like minded individuals ( go Goldman Sachs elite team think methodology), and it is super hard to find girls to do this with, which I'm sure is one of the biggest determinants and roadblocks to really optimizing.. which is what life and poker is all about.
Hopefully, this thread will be the conduit that will allow for like minded females to connect. I would love to have a summer WSOP crib full of alpha elite chicks who grind... hopefully this can be brought into fruition, or brought to light if it already does exist.
cheers all

Very friendly discussion group. Lots of ladies (including some of the best in poker) attend this.
There is also a no-limit specific discussion group that meets Monday nights, but I've never been to one of their meetings.

Everybody is welcomed. The restaurant has a buffet set up from around 2pm to 2:30pmish, I forget the cost, but it's reasonable.
There is also a menu one can order from. You don't have eat anything there in order to be at the meeting - although I've found the food to be good. I believe that the group instituted a mandatory tip to the waitstaff (who put out pitchers of water and iced tea and such) of a couple of dollars if no food is ordered. Please do ask when you get there.
Just show up and introduce yourself. I hope that you enjoy it.

I'm also a LGBT person, but as I'm a Cancuk though (I'm exclusively into femmes) we just say Queer.
IMO I think there is a high proportion of queer women in the poker world compared to straight. It's the whole alpha thing thats dominant in lezzies.
Awesome though that you both identified.

Hi Swishy!
Thanks for following. Unfortunately I haven't had time to update it in the last few weeks, because I am in the middle of a move across the ocean to Germany. Most of the stuff is done now and I should be able to play more poker now (yay, in Europe where I can play freely).
I would love to meet you too. I will sadly have to pass up this years' WSOP, because there is just too much stuff going on in my life and I can't justify paying 1000$ to go see friends if I *just* left the US. But there's always 2012...
On your question, I just wing it most of the time.
Often already the name "bellatrix" or "bella" suggests to them, that it is a female on the other side of the computer. But yeah, I get the "that bellatrix dude, he said..." plus there are some dudes taking on female names in online forums, too. But "swishy" could is not confined to a certain sex, so I can see how they would "sup bro" you.
Sometimes the forum corrects them. Sometimes I mention it with a smiley at the end, always understandable that in a community where there are mostly males you can assume a male participant as a default. It used to bug me in scientific papers and I always made sure to research the first author, so that I could give proper credit ("she discovered..."), but others are not so thorough. And sometimes I don't mention it, this is when I don't want to veer away from the discussion at hand and don't want to seem petty.
Anyway, yeah, not very good answer I gave, but then again, I don't have a formula how to deal with people in the forums and just do what comes to mind first

heyyy ladies. i'm addy & i live in las vegas. i've been playing poker for about 6 years and have been playing semi-professionally for ~2. (i also do freelance writing & producing and just finished my master's in media arts.) i'm originally from NY but i've lived all over: boston, montreal, toronto, hawaii, LA. been calling vegas home for about 18 months now.
i recently took 6th at the caesars WSOPc ladies event for $1200. also shipped the aria nightly tournament on 5/21 for $2100, as well as 4th in the daily high-roller on merge for $1k & 1st in the $5 rebuy for $1200. clearly i'm a bit of an MTT junkie.

just joined 2+2 after many months of lurking. howdy. nice to see that there's a spot just for the girls. can't wait to meet some of you during tournament season.
(oh, and since it seems to be part of the discussion, i'm a huge supporter of the GLBTQ community. much love all around. i've been known to swing the bat both ways and my kid sister is a proud little queer. imo there's way too much homophobia in the poker community and i'll stir up sh*t til i'm blue in the face to try and stamp it out.)

Hey there! Love that you're a supporter of the LGBTQ community. I am a queer girl and never know whether to be open about it in the poker community. (I guess I just decided to.) Anyway, your support is much appreciated!
