Hey everyone

18yo here, been playing poker for a fair while but only recently started taking it seriously (online)

Anyway getting my exam results in <3 hours and I'm unable to sleep so I figured that i'd lose my posting virginity because firstly I'm quite drunk thus less internet shy and secondly if results go badly I'll be reminded that poker is still a wonderful constant in my life.

Also I know literally no one else that plays let alone other ladies so it's starting to get a wee bit lonely..

So yeah, hi!

Hi everyone, I'm Jdker online and live in the SF Bay Area. I've been playing poker for just about a year, mostly cash and STGs at micro stakes with trips to Reno to play live 1-2 month. I have a background in philosophy/logic (which I taught 10yrs) and have always loved strategy games, so I've been studying and studying and my game is just starting to take off.
I'd love to meet some other women in the game in this area 'cause no one in my life is into poker.

I find the psychology of playing at live tables as a woman really fascinating. I mean, I think as a woman just starting out, one has to develop strategies in response to how one is perceived and treated at the tables. The first question I ask myself of an opponent is: are they perceiving me as a weak and tight player and will they try to run me over? If they are likely to be coming at me in that way, I do find myself playing into that stereotype and laying a tasty trap. I usually double up in the first hour, or else end up over-compensating and play too aggro and bust out. I both resent that my play takes shape around what the (usu. all or mostly men) think of me gender-wise, and think it can be a great advantage.
So far, my experience...

Of course, I'd love to find a way to study along with others, like a poker house. Is there such a think in the SF Bay Area?
If anyone is interested in meeting up at a cafe to play together and talk, DM me or post here.

P.S. Really really glad I found this forum!

Hello!

I've been a lurker on 2+2 for a while and posted in LLSNL a few times, but I found this subforum and thought I should introduce myself! I'm nearly 30, live in the US, and tend to play low-stakes. I never got into online poker too much; I didn't really get super into poker until right before Black Friday.

Soooo despite the mansplaining I'm seeing in some threads here, I think this subforum's going to be awesome. Hope I find a home here

Hi all!

My bf just pointed out this forum to me today, so no lurking anonymously here :-)

So here it is: I'm a dutchie and I play for fun. Well, mostly. At times I just hate it and feel like throwing my laptop out of the window. Since EVP was taken over by iPoker I stopped playing online, untill I rediscovered the Womens Sunday on PokerStars a few months ago. Happy! Made a few ft's since, but can't seem to take it down. Grrr. I keep hoping some of my boyfriends talent will rub off on me (he's a poker pro/ reporter), but so far no luck.

Anyway, I recognize some of you from the tables on PS. Don't play cash tho, mainly because I suck at it. So I usually play MTT's and some SnG's. Love special womens events - I played the WSOP Ladies Event last year and I will in 2014. I also played a few LIPS tournaments in Vegas, that was awesome! Best time I ever had playing poker and much more fun than the WSOP LE. They're on Facebook too: Ladies International Poker Tour. Any of you played in their tournaments? Also, the EPT ladies events are pretty good, although their structure is similar to the WSOP. I prefer deepstack tournaments. Oh and PLO! About time Pokerstars sets up a higher stakes and earlier timed Sunday Womens PLO tournament. I stopped playing the cheap one, cause I found myself onetabeling until 2 in the morning to win $27 tops, haha.

By the way, I didn't consider going to vet school. But I do PR for an international monkey/ exotic animals rescue center, does that qualify? ;-)

I'm pretty bad at posting regularly, but who knows. I'll try and keep it up. Love the forum so far!

Welcome girly!

Just remember you're not doing it right unless you smash a couple of laptops on the journey

Thanks for the warm welcome! And for loving my avatar, although it's kinda supposed to be cranky - not cute

Hello, everyone.

My name is Nancy and I’m from the SF Bay Area. I’m very new to the game and would like to learn.

My boyfriend started playing poker tournaments last year at our local casinos and even played in the WSOP last year. He’ll be going again this year. He mentioned this website and while browsing around, I found this forum and have spent the last few days reading some of the posts. He’s trying to teach me NLHE.

Any and all tips, advice, book suggestions would be very welcome. I’m not looking to be a professional, I just want to understand the game and learn enough to be able to sit at a table and know what I’m doing, so that I can play recreationally.

Obviously, I'm not going to be posting very much, but I hope to be able to learn enough to do so.

It's nice meeting you all

Hi, Nancy! Welcome to the forums.

One place that you can get a lot of good advice on how to play is the strategy forums. The Live Low-Stakes NL is very good for people playing 1/2 - 2/5 NL hold em', for example. The others are good if you are playing online.

Also, there is a beginner's forum that can be very useful as well.

All of these are very friendly places to post, where personal attacks aren't allowed - thankfully!

Have fun, and here's hoping that both you and your boyfriend win big!

Hi everyone!

My name is Hannah, I'm from Spain and I'm a Business Admin. student. I started playing around with poker in 2010, playing micro cash games and tourneys online (2NL and 10 cents tourneys!). I eventually started taking the game more seriously and started grinding up a bankroll, but because of studies and online poker regulation in Spain (we can only play against other Spaniards now), I haven't been playing very regularly. I grinded 3-10€ 6max hyper SNGs until last summer when I moved to the UK for an exchange program at the University of Birmingham. Now, when I have the chance, I play MTTs on .COM up to 22$ + the Women's Sunday (I love it!).

Also, I really enjoy playing live tournaments. In 2012 I sold action to the EPT Barcelona Women's event satellite, I qualified and I came 6th

I find poker very relaxing. After exams, I love going to the casino, socialising with other players and not thinking about anything else outside the game. Here in the UK there are loads of great tournaments and the poker community is very welcoming!

I absolutely love this game and I could talk about it for hours, but I don't want to make this too long. Only one more thing: next month my boyfriend and I are going to Las Vegas. He is a professional poker player and the one who introduced me to the game. I'm super excited about this trip and I'd love to meet you if you are there too!

See you soon,

H
