Just played the free trial of RIFT and it is pretty sweet. I have to get a new computer before I can buy it though.

Day off from grinding today, so I decided to dive into a book from one of my favorite writers - Jonathan Lethem.

From "Chronic City" -

"Perkus Tooth himself later supplied that descriptive word: ellipsistic, derived from ellipsis. A species of blank interval, a nod or fugue in which he was neither depressed nor undepressed, not struggling to finish a though nor to begin one."

I often find myself in an ellipsistic mood . . .

Farming, painting, reading, cooking, yoga... I don't get to play anywhere near as much poker as I'd like to. So mad that it basically became illegal right when I was starting to get seriously into it.

Magic: the gathering, Video Games, Fixing computers, Cooking, hitting on beata, listening to music.

Since I am a guy, that probably doesn't help, but those are some of my other interests outside of poker.

Ive always wanted to open a nail salon but im being lazy about getting my license. Sometimes I like to practice different designs to try on friends. I like to experiment with many artistic hobbies and this is one of them

The technique is called water marbeling, its kinda hard to do but pretty cool looking imo

Just graduated from college, and currently studying for the CPA Exam and GMAT, as well as hanging out with my amazing girlfriend!

As exciting as poker is and can be, life is way more exciting away from the tables.

I think I hit quarter-life crisis realizing how much I hate my graduate accounting classes, so I've been letting hobbies take over (poker being one of them) and not focusing on my real career path.

I think about poker, watch poker, read poker, etc. far too many hours per day. Then, I take Saturday day trips to Atlantic City from NYC to play once in a while if I don't have anything planned.

I also picked up an obsession with Chopin's music a few months ago. Again, quarter-life crisis exploring. I almost convinced myself that I could be good enough to pursue a Master's degree in piano, but I'm finally getting over that.

On weekdays, I drill Chopin's etudes for a couple hours, study accounting for 5 mins, work out for 2 hours, and go back to drilling the etudes. Might take another 5 min study break here and there but I can't even name the 4 sections of the CPA exam I'm supposed to be focusing on. Yep, sounds like a great life.

as someone who did this, i consider it one of the most amazing periods of my life. sadly, the freelance pianist's life is not a very romantic one and i had to keep it as a hobby. even at the highly competitive level, there isn't much of a career to be had performing these days. it's all about teaching instead (which i prefer not to do).

my other hobbies are reading (currently, david mitchell's jacob de zoet), movies (loved fast five, dying to see tree of life), museums, and watching reality tv shows.

Yep, not much in performance anymore. Even if you win the International Chopin Competition, that's 30,000 euros, once in a lifetime (not to mention you'll spend your life preparing for it).

Paradoxically, teaching is probably much easier skill-wise. The last teacher I had openly admitted I was playing at a more advanced level.

I have played pool for a very long time - we have a very nice table at home. Poker took me away from in the past years but now that I can't play as much I have started playing pool again.

I also love Mario Kart hehe.
