One being, as you mentioned, safety and being able to lock up and GO for 3 months at a time. Which is def a scenario that happens frequently with me.
Personally I wouldnt buy a condo out here. simply because the construction on those places suck and you can get stuck in an endless litigation with the constructor HOA and other tenants because of it. Plus You are really just owning an apartment and have all the downside that comes with that.
with a Home you really got something including a bit of land and your own backyard. besides its your own F-in Castle and if you want to do the risky business dance in your undies you can GFI most any time.
with a home you can request courtesy drive bys' from metro. IF you develop friendships with your neighbors that is really a good thing. I would suggest you go out of your way to do this.
My next door neighbor is out of the country (he has a rocking place in Thailand) most of the year. I pick his mail and do a walk around every few days. Nothing has ever happened to his place besides a bunk H2O heater.
besides I moved from Grapevine TX where I had a condo out on the McPherson slew part of the lake to Vegas 13 years ago and it was one of the best moves (next to my risky business dance) I've ever made.
with home prices as they are I figure a home is a no brainer if you can land good financing.
Roy Cooke is my real estate broker. He and his wife Misty are A++++ folks in my book. even though one of the principals here had a misunderstanding with him on a deal many years back. I would recommend him any time.
