It appears that Cardplayer.com, at long last, has dropped Lock Poker. I suspect the never-ending drumbeat for action from the poker community played a role. I don't think CardPlayer did this for players or out of respect for community outrage, of course. Rater, I think they see that bad publicity is bad for business.

Their affiliate page is at www.cardplayer (dot) com/online-poker-bonus/best-online-poker-sites.

How do you know they "listened to the poker community"? Maybe they are getting no money from it anymore. How many people signed up for Lock through that site in the past year or whatever.

Correlation does not equal causation. You imply (a lot) that positive things like (NJ, NV regulation) is because of the poker community and 60 people tweeting the DAP. Whereas people like myself believe it happened because the casinos and their lobbies wanted it to happen and put money behind it.

I guess we'll never know so we'll assume Cardplayer ignored the poker community all this time but now they have "heard" them.

We make things possible by taking action for them. If you're not in the fight, how can you win it?

I dont' know if we'll ever get official word from CardPlayer, but we do have work from plenty of lawmakers that the DAP is very effective.

Not everything I post is license to discuss the PPA or the DAP. This thread it about Lock Poker and Cardplayer. Let's discuss that.

I did write, "...has listened to the poker community," so feel free to discuss directly, but that isn't a backdoor to an off-topic discussion.

Cardplayer is as scummy as Lock. I wouldn't hold it pass them that the only reason they stop running Lock poker ads is because Lock stop paying them. So please do NOT give Cardplayer an ounce of credit for "listening to the poker community". Cardplayer has demonstrated over and over again... they only care about their bottom line even if it means being part of the Lock scam.

I think there is a 95% chance the contract ran out and they were not getting paid.

I think there is a 4.9% chance they read about the NJ DGE Letter to other advertising outlets and pulled ads, to avoid getting on some possible blacklist.

I think there is a .1% chance that CardPlayer "listened to the poker community" and forewent a penny of revenue in response.

Let the "poker community" believe what they want about the Shulman empire, it makes them all "happy".

They are still advertising other offshore sites -- even in NJ. So, it's probably not that. So, you give the players 5%. I'll take 5% from DQ any day.

I'm not giving Cardplayer any credit. They should have done this a long, long time ago.

I once posted on Barry shulmans Facebook page informing him of the problems with Lock and asked if he could review the issue with his team. It was respectful. He deleted it within minutes, and did not respond in any way.

This told me all I needed to know about their intentions. I'd agree this probably was down to just not being paid.

I find it extraordinarily hard to believe that any sort of pressure from the community had anything to do with this.

of course, we will never know and Rich is entitled to his carefully chosen words that he "suspects" that pressure "played a role." it is just beyond believable to me that after all this time of Cardplayer prioritizing their meager revenues from or contractual obligation to Lock over the community as a whole, the players it was deceiving, and its reputation, that it finally decided today that the "drumbeat for action" was too much.

I don't think they care about us, of course. All evidence is to the contrary. Rater, I believe the negative attention was bad for business.

fair enough. it just says a lot to me they had a chance to salvage their reputation when the spotlight was first pointed at them, and still decided that honoring a contract with bandits or collecting some paltry sum was worth more than protecting their reputation.

we'll never know, and frankly, the importance of this is microscopic compared to the bigger battle. if that battle is won, then that will mostly take care of these sorts of situations

Hi Donkey:

These numbers look about right to me.

Best wishes,

Hi Mason,

I don't think CardPlayer did this for players or out of respect for community outrage, of course. All evidence is completely to the contrary. Rather, I think they merely see that bad publicity is bad for business.

I think the pushback may have influenced a business decision...not a moral one.

Best regards,

Rich

FFS, we wanted them to stop advertising Lock, they stopped. WTF are we sniping about?

In so many ways, the 'poker community' can't get out of its own way to save its own life. Stuff like this makes us all look bad, and frankly it is quite discouraging to those who spend their time and energy fighting for online poker.

They stopped advertising Lock. Good Game!

Hi Rich:

I agree. In situations like this, in my opinion, it's important to keep the pressure on, and of course, many poster here, as well as the PPA, did exactly this.

Best wishes,
Mason

Given the past history of another organization continuing the advertisement of another poker site despite player protests and seemingly only stopping when the contract ran out, I'd say player protest had zero effect.

That is not to say we shouldn't protest when we feel things are wrong.
