It's been a while since I've graced TWSS with my presence, (spending too much time over in NVG commenting on cheating scandals), so it's time to post something really outrageous here. (Ha! Ha!)

I was thinking earlier today about outlandish WSOP prop bets. Here's a really wild one. Remember just a few years ago when Erica Mouthino (sp?) and [future husband] David "Doc" Sands came close to making the final table on the Main Event? Wouldn't it be incredible if a married couple (as in a husband and wife or a legally married same-sex couple) made it to the final table of the ME and wound up battling it out (heads up) for the championship? Would the Vegas sports books offer a line on such a bet? (I might risk a Franklin on a bet like that - if the payoff odds were at least 3,000-to-1.)

There are several married couples we know of (including one couple named Katie and Collin ...) who are in a position to make us prop bettors rich! There are other married couples who are [probably] also playing in the ME - like Jennifer Harman and Marco Traniello, Karina and Chip Jett, and maybe six or seven other married folks I'm not thinking of; so it's not a million-to-one long shot that a married couple could wind up battling it out for all the marbles.

ESPN and Caesar's want big TV ratings. Just imagine what happens when Collin and Katie (or Erica and David) wind up heads up for all the money? How about some (faked) "trash talk" kind of like this ...

Katie: "Hubby, I hate to tell you this, but I asked Wilbur which one of us would win - you or me? Wilbur barked and wagged his tail when I said 'Me,' so get ready to have your ego crushed!"

Collin: "Wilbur is a dog, not a poker player! Plus, I've written a book on heads up no limit hold 'em, so you're toast!" (Norman Chad and Lon McEachern go bananas hyping up this "trash talk".)

It would be too syrupy for husband and wife to be all kissy-kissy and "Oh, I love you, darling" heads up, (well, maybe not ...) but it would certainly be entertaining. Plus, if it comes down to husband versus wife for the championship, Katie and Collin (or Jennifer and Marco) will probably wind up on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Talk about poker getting a big shot in the arm ...

Anyway, I'm curious if any of the bookies are offering a line on this kind of bet - and if so, what the line is? (Old Alan just being a little crazy ...)

Katie:

If you or Collin happen to run across a bookmaker in Vegas, ask what the odds are for a husband and wife making it to heads up in the Main Event. I'm just curious if the sports books will actually take bets on such a proposition - and at what odds? I have a feeling somebody will make book on such a bet, but at nowhere near 3,000-to-1 payoff odds. (After what Galle Baumann and Elizabeth Hille pulled off last year, I have a feeling the payoff odds for a woman making the final table are probably well under 10-to-1 - maybe even under 5-to-1.)

This would be a dream come true for ESPN. A few years ago you could sense the excitement in the voices of Norman Chad and Lon McEachern (especially Norman) as Erica and David got closer and closer to the final table. It was really obvious what they were thinking ...

I'm sure Mason would love to see you and Collin fighting it out for all the chips. That would probably mean he has to do a rush reprinting of about a million copies of all of your and Collin's 2+2 titles.

When you and Collin get to heads up, I've got a "secret strategy" you can use to really throw Collin off his game. Just before play starts, lean over and whisper in his ear, "Honey, if you beat me, you're sleeping in the dog house with Wilbur!" That should turn his mind to mush ...

After coming so close last year, I sure hope a lady player makes the final table this year. Maybe it won't have the same impact as the "Moneymaker Effect" from ten years ago, but it will certainly be good for poker. Plus, it's long overdue. Go ladies!!

There is a lady "psychic" here in my hometown who I occasionally consult on important issues. So I dropped by to see her last night and the session went something like this.

Me: "I know four ladies named Jamie Kerstetter, Katie Stone, Katie Dozier, and Jennifer Shahade. All four of these ladies are ..."

Psychic: "... poker players!"

Me: "Very good!" I responded, thanking God that she didn't say hookers. "Your psychic vibes are really in tune tonight." (She nodded in agreement and directed me to proceed.)

Me: "OK, all four of these ladies are going to play in the $10,000 buy-in Main Event of the World Series of Poker out in Las Vegas. I want to know how they will do."

Psychic: "Two of them will make it into the money and one of them will go very deep."

Me: "How deep is very deep?"

Psychic: "The answer to that question will cost you another $100 bucks."

Good luck Grindettes!

You could literally make up your own odds and then double it. After that times it by ten, double it once more and you'd still not get the right price.

It's not that hard to estimate--I think it's something like 3,000,000:1.

All my best,
